How Do I Soften Hard Leather Boots?

Step 1

Take a cotton ball and soak it in rubbing alcohol. Rub it all over your boots until they are saturated. Repeat as many times as necessary to loosen up the leather.

Step 2

Rub the surface of the saddle soap with a damp cloth until it develops a lather. Take a cloth and rub the soap well into the surface of your boots. Allow them to dry.

Step 3

Rub petroleum jelly all over your boots, using your fingers, to further soften them.

Step 4

If the leather on your boots is unfinished, treat it with mink oil. Using a dry cloth, rub the mink oil into the boots to condition the leather. Remove excess oil immediately.
