Step 1
Scoop up any Vaseline sitting on top of the carpet pile with a spoon. Gently push the spoon under the Vaseline, starting at the edge of the spill, and lift it out of the carpet without pressing the stain down into the pile.
Step 2
Dampen a white, lint-free cloth with citrus solvent and blot the Vaseline stain gently. Press the solvent into the carpet fibers, lift the cloth and repeat. If the cloth begins to dry out, re-apply the citrus solvent to the cloth. Blot until no more Vaseline comes out of the carpet.
Step 3
Fill a spray bottle with warm water and spray the Vaseline stain with the water until the carpet is damp. Blot up the water with a new clean, white cloth to rinse out the citrus solvent. Let the carpet dry for 2 hours.
Step 4
Run your hand over the area to see if you can feel any remaining Vaseline. The product is clear, so you may not be able to see it, but you should be able to feel the oily residue if there is any remaining on the spot.
Step 5
Mix 1 tsp. of clear, bleach-free liquid dish soap in a bowl with 2 cups of warm water. Soak a clean white cloth in the solution and blot the stained area, if any Vaseline remains after the citrus solvent treatment. Leave the soapy solution on the carpet for five minutes.
Step 6
Repeat step 3 to rinse the soapy water and blot it up.
Step 7
Vacuum the carpet once it is dry to restore the carpet pile to its original shape.
