To make the garland, grab some string, a pair of scissors and glue. Then, simply print out two copies of the garland page below.

Cut out all of the shapes from each printable. Line up one set of shapes face down, a few inches apart. Then dab a bit of glue in the middle of each one. Lay the string across the shapes, making sure to place it on the glue.

Then, place the second set of corresponding shapes on top of the string, matching triangles with triangles and octagons with octagons.
