Cats, all the cats

Aries is inquisitive, playful, demanding and hot tempered—basically, a cat in human form. Cats are a great match for this star sign because they are self-sufficient (Aries gets annoyed when they're depended upon for every need) and yet, totally lovable when the mood strikes.

Guinea Pigs

These affectionate, tailless rodents are social, happy pets who will bond with anyone who handles them gently and gives them lots of attention. Patient Taurus kids are known to be diligent and keep up with their responsibilities, making them the perfect human friends for these squeaky critters.

Dogs

Charming, social Gemini loves interaction, movement and frequent pet kisses. They are a natural fit for medium to small dogs who need to be active throughout the day. Dogs are playful and energetic which influences the sometimes moody twin sign. Plus, since Gemini thrives on being in charge, they're bound to teach their happy-go-lucky pups lots of tricks and commands.

Rats

While some people may be repulsed by rodents, rats actually make adorable house pets. They're easy to care for, social and love challenges. Cancer kids tend to keep their feelings and emotions private, but have a need to control the world around them. They make great rat handlers because they'll create a vivid, stimulating environment for their pet to live in and, as their bond grows, will get much needed practice sharing their feelings out loud.

Iguanas

These smooth-skinned reptiles require a lot of patience and slow interaction. Much like Leo, iguanas don't quickly warm up to new people or situations and build trust over long periods of time. Since Leo children thrive when they have detailed responsibilities, they will do well with the myriad of feeding and cleaning tasks required to keep iguanas. The reward will be a healthy, happy lizard that knows their Leo human will always take care of them.

Bunny Rabbits

Virgo has similar energy to a rabbit. They are highly anxious and nervous, yet want nothing more than to be loved unconditionally. A furry rabbit will help Virgo children develop a calmer personality as they try to win over their bunny's trust and affection. Plus, once a rabbit feels safe, they will soak up all the adoration a Virgo naturally expresses.

Horsies!

Really, what child wouldn't love a beautiful horse to call their own? Libra children are especially good equine handlers, as they are incredibly responsible and caring indivuals who will quickly bond with a horse. Level-headed Libra kids are quick to fall in love and will use that love as fuel to do their best to make their horse happy and healthy.

Few signs have the patience to handle talkative birds, but sassy Scorpio children do. Parakeets love to sing and are highly vocal creatures, much like talkative Scorpio. This quick-thinking sign will enjoy teaching their bird to whistle favorite tunes and hearing them squawk and chirp throughout the day. Plus, they're absolutely beautiful to look at and Scorpio is charmed by anything pretty.

One thing Sagittarius kids need help with is patience. While they are lifelong learners who love exploring the world, they can get easily miffed when they have to wait on someone or something they need or want right now. That's why a tough-shelled turtle makes a great friend for this impatient star sign. Turtles won't hurry up and yet they're totally awesome and weird, which will entice Sagittarius kids to slow down and appreciate them.

Pythons

Snakes are super scary to some people, but they are emblems of strength and power to others. Capricorn kids will love the opportunity to care for a python and show him or her off to their friends. Capricorn children are not afraid of hard work or difficult tasks, making them patient enough to handle all the duties required when caring for a snake. They'll also revel in having such an unusual pet and seeing the awe in their friends' eyes.

Farm Animals

Chicken, pigs, goats—even a cow—all make wonderful animal companions for earth-loving Aquarius kids. These children are drawn to all animals and develop an instant rapport with just about any pet or farm animal they meet. These children can be forgetful, however, so they'll need a parent to supervise them to make sure the animals are fed, watered and cared for as needed.

Goldfish

Pisces is a deep-feeling sign and therefore they need to approach pet ownership in baby steps. Since fish don't have the capacity to become emotionally involved, it will help Pisces children develop the sense of responsibility needed to care for a pet without devastating them completely when that pet eventually dies. Plus, water is a natural healing source for Pisces, and having an aquarium will help them stay calm and emotionally centered.
