Here's to 2014
After the ball drops and the champagne glasses empty, 45 percent of Americans will try and make a fresh start with a New Year's resolution. Losing weight, quitting smoking and staying on a budget are among the most popular, but they're not the only ones. We polled moms from around the country who are resolving to do things to make themselves look better than ever in 2014. Maybe their intentions will inspire you, too!
Anjali
"I'm going to do a vixen red lip, so I look sexy and polished in approximately 10 seconds. Usually I'm neither of those things."
Anjali, 44, New York City, mom to 7- and 4-year-old girls
Ashley
"I really want to erase all these years of sun damage, so I'm going to start by wearing SPF 50+ sunscreen religiously every day."
Ashley, 47, Martinsville, Va., mom to an 18-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy
Ruth
"I'm not going to leave the house without makeup. I recently chopped off my hair, and now feel like my quickly aging face has nothing to hide behind. But when I wear makeup, people say my haircut makes my eyes pop—even though it's really the makeup."
Ruth, 42, Solana Beach, Calif., mom to 8- and 5-year-old boys
Gabrielle
"I'm going to wash my makeup brushes every two weeks. I always say I'm going to, but the next thing I know it's a million days later and I'm putting it back on the list as a 'to-do' instead of as a 'done.' This year, I'm going to make it a priority, as they can become full of bacteria, plus makeup doesn't go on as smoothly when brushes are dirty."
Gabrielle, 30, Little Rock, Ark., mom to an 11-year-old girl
Trish
"I'm going to put a tablespoon of flaxseed oil in my smoothies every day for better skin, hair and nails!"
Trish, 46, New York City, mom to a 9-year-old boy
Nellwyn
"I'm resolving to take off my makeup at night."
Nellwyn, 44, San Diego, mom to an 8-year-old son
Nicole
"I've decided I'm going to put down the soda and start drinking more water. I'm hoping that it helps my skin look less tired!"
Nicole, 25, Bronx, mom to a 14-month-old boy
Janet
"My hands are so gross looking that I'm self-conscious even holding a drink at a party. So I'm going to stop biting my nails and start getting manicures every two weeks. I don't want the color to be too high maintenance, so I think I'll go for a pale pink polish."
Janet, 52, Boca Raton Fla., mom to 19- and 16-year-old boys

Celia
"I'm going to try to get my legs waxed or threaded once a month so they spend less time looking like a man's! I don't shave, and consistent wax has simplified my morning routine, making it easier to get out of the house. But if I wait more than a month, my legs aren't so pretty. Three years of waxing has really thinned my hair, so I'm hoping I can eventually go longer between getting it done and eventually stop altogether."
Celia, 41, Solana Beach, Calif., mom to a 10-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl
Elisabeth
"I'm going to get highlights put in my hair to cover the gray and enhance the color so it doesn't look so blah."
Elisabeth, 52, Wenham, Mass., mom to 18- and 14-year-old girls
Karen
"I will moisturize my body after every shower—even if I'm on deadline, have something on the stove or my kids are screaming. My skin is so dry, especially in the winter, that it itches and makes me look and feel old."
Karen, 47, New York City, mom to a 6-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl

Maggie
"I'm going to have more sex, as orgasms are the best beauty treatment a woman can get!"
Maggie, 36, Solana Beach, Calif., mom to a 7-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy
