We were so excited to get our hands on the new Muy Bueno Cookbook, because it's not just a book of recipes—it's about mothers, daughters, stories and the traditions families build around good, homemade food. The book is by mom Evangelina Soza and her two daughters, Yvette Marquez-Sharpnack and Veronica Gonzalez-Smith, who were all born and raised in El Paso, Texas. Many of the recipes in the book come from Evangelina's mother, Jesusita Mendias-Soza, who was known for her amazing Mexican cooking.
We picked a few of our favorite recipes from the book to share, including one that Yvette especially loves: the chicken mole. She says, "I have so many favorite recipes, so it is very difficult to pick only one. I'd have to say maybe our Chicken Mole, because we didn't eat it very often. It was a special occasion dish reserved for weddings or quinceañeras_._ I especially love that our mole recipe is very simple to prepare but gives you the soul of traditional mole without all the hard work."
