On the most recent episode of The Breakdown with Bethany, actress and television personality La La Anthony shared her experience navigating the challenges of parenting a teenage son while also managing her own health. Anthony noticed a shift in their dynamic as her son Kiyan entered his teen years. “They just feel like they know everything. Like they don’t need us anymore,” she said, adding that it’s essential to give teens space to make their own decisions.
“I think it’s important to let our children make their decisions but just be there to support and guide. Not be too overpowering,” Anthony explained. She strives to let Kiyan navigate his life while ensuring he knows she’s always there. “When I feel him kind of going a little bit off track, I bring him back on.”
Anthony described the teenage years as both fun and challenging, warning parents to brace themselves for the “I know it all” phase. “Get ready for the ‘I know it all.’ They know everything about life. You don’t know anything.”
In addition to parenting, Anthony also opened up about her partnership with Amgen, using her platform to raise awareness about psoriasis, an autoimmune condition she was diagnosed with. “At first, not knowing what it is, is the scary part,” she said, describing how the condition showed up as flaky patches on her skin, scalp, eyebrows, and behind her ears. Once she received a diagnosis from her dermatologist, Anthony felt empowered to manage her psoriasis and continue her on-camera work.
Her journey with psoriasis has influenced her parenting, serving as an example for her son about prioritizing health. “My son seeing me prioritize my health and take care of myself is something that he’s watching as a young man, as an athlete as well, paying attention to how he’s taking care of himself,” she said.
