I Will Never Get Behind the ‘Not Washing Your Hair Every Day’ Trend

Breaking news: Not all moms use dry shampoo.

Some of us (gasp!) actually wash our hair every day! I know, it’s madness, right?

As much as I would love to join the secret club of you moms who can somehow go days upon days without turning into grease buckets, I just can’t. Thanks to some unlucky genetics, my hair gets greasy approximately 13 hours after I wash it and no amount of dry shampoo can touch that business. Before you come at me with your apple cider vinegar nonsense, let me just assure you it’s just the way my hair is — my daughters have it too, so I have some visible proof that some of us are just gross, greasy, and unlucky in life.

That's not to say I haven't tried to join you

I've purchased both the budget and the high-end brands of dry shampoo. I've sprayed at night, in an effort to prevent the accumulation of the oil that seems to come out in the dark hours. I've used an entire can in one desperate morning, when I realized I was late and had just gotten in from a run and truly had no time to shower. I made it through, but I kid you not, it did take the entire bottle and, even then, it was questionable.

I won't lie — I'm incredibly jealous that there are people out there who can go a week at a time with just one hair wash.

I mean, the time you must save!

I literally dread showering because it means not only wasting all of that time shaving various body parts that, let's face it, aren't exactly getting used, I have to waste time washing and conditioning my hair — just to have it go back up into a permanently messy bun.

It just feels like there's no point for me to bother styling my hair, because 12 hours later, it's just going to deteriorate into Grease City anyway. Why curl it when I just have to wash it out? Why even attempt anything other than the bun or braid that has come to define me?

The truth is, I will never get behind the "not washing your hair" trend, simply because I physically can't. I hate the feeling of my greasy, gross hair on my scalp and it makes me grumpy AF, especially when I spend most of my days schlepping around at home.

It will never be for me

I will never get to join in the cool-mom group of dry-shampoo jokes or know what it's like to have curls that last for days or know that doing my hair is actually worth the effort because it won't explode with grease later that day. And that's sad.

So, let’s stop making mom life synonymous with dry shampoo, because I’m feeling just a tad hurt over the fact that while you’re out there all living your best dry shampoo lives, I’m stuck washing my hair.

Again.
