'Tis the Season

For many of us, the holiday season marks the arrival of house guests visiting from near and far. Get into the spirit of the season by making your guests feel truly at home with these extra welcoming touches from HGTV designer Sabrina Soto.
Welcome basket

Create a simple “welcome basket” for your guests. Hotel sample leftovers are perfect for this: Throw in things like small bottles of lotions, shampoo and conditioner and the day's newspaper. Gift guests with their own set of coffee mugs and various drink mixes so they feel comfortable using the kitchen to make their drinks at their leisure. Try a coffee gift set that you can add right into the basket.
Linens

Have a set of linens that is designated only for the guest bedroom. Arrange everything in an easy-to-spot location and provide extras of everything. This will make it easy for your guests to get settled. Add a luxe touch like a faux fur throw on top of the bed; they are cozy and will keep your guests warm on cold nights. Festive pillows are also fun.
Comfy Bed

Create an environment that promotes a good night's sleep. To make your guest bed extra comfortable, add a plush mattress topper. A simple touch like this will go a long way, and your guests will rest peacefully while staying with you.
Entertainment

Provide your guests with something to entertain themselves with before falling asleep. Gather current magazines and top-selling books along with crossword and sudoku puzzles into a basket in the room. If your guests are from out of town, add a local book or magazine that will help get them acquainted with your area.
Organization

Make it easy for your guests to stay organized. Place a decorative tray in the guest bedroom so guests can keep their small belongings, like jewelry or keys, accessible.
