How to Grill Chicken for Sandwiches

Step 1

Spray the grill rack with nonstick cooking spray. Preheat the grill to medium-high.

Step 2

Marinate the chicken or brush it with oil, such as olive oil, and lightly season it with salt and pepper if desired. Place the chicken on the hot grill rack and close the cover of the grill.

Step 3

Use grilling tongs to flip the chicken after about eight minutes. Close the cover of the grill.

Step 4

Check the chicken for doneness after another eight to nine minutes by cutting into the thickest part of the meat with a knife. If the chicken is pink in spots, allow it to cook for another five minutes; then recheck. Remove it from the grill when it's reached an internal temperature of 165 to 170 degrees Fahrenheit or all pink areas have turned white.

Step 5

Place hot chicken on rolls, buns or bread with your choice of condiments.
