Everyday Bun Hairstyles

Wrapped Bun

You've got quirky-chic style all wrapped up when you sport this statement-making looped bun. Grab a brightly colored, lightweight scarf that's about 1-foot, 6-inches long and you are ready to rock. First, run a few drops of shine serum through strands and then smooth your hair back into a low ponytail. Secure with an elastic. Tuck one end of the scarf through the elastic and let it hang down. Take a section of hair and wrap it tightly around the scarf. Then, twist the entire pony into a bun and secure it to back of your head with a second elastic.

Braided Bun

You can't go wrong with a braided bun. They're chic enough for any occasion, but they are simple to pull off. Pull your hair into a low ponytail and secure in place with an elastic. Then, divide the pony into three sections and braid it down as far as it can go. Tie the end with another elastic. Now, grab the end of the braid and wrap it around the base of the pony to form a bun shape. Use bobby pins to pin the braid in place. Make the bun tight for a more elegant look. If you are aiming for a low-key, everyday look, pull on the sections of the braid a bit with your fingers to mess up the bun just a little for texture. Either way, set with a spritz of hairspray.

Chignon

There's a reason the chignon is a classic. It's effortlessly sleek and classy — think Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn — and it's also a powerful secret weapon for concealing a bad hair day. Smooth a bit of styling gel through your mane and then pull your hair back into pony. Secure at the nape of your neck with an elastic. Now, twist the ponytail around itself in a figure-8 shape to create the chignon shape. Pin in place with matte hair grips and then use your fingers to run a few drops of shine serum over the top of your hairline and the chignon.

Twisted Bun

Nothing wrong with being a little twisted — not when it comes to this super-cool update on the bun. Use a fine-toothed comb to make a deep side part, then pick up the top section of your hair from the forehead to the crown. Work a bit of texturizing product through the section, then roll it tightly away from your forehead to create a twist. Hold the twist with one hand while you gather the rest of your mane into a low pony with the other. Then, slip the twist and the pony through one elastic. Take one section of hair from the pony, twist it and then twirl the twist around the elastic to make a small bun. Pin in place. Then, take the rest of the pony, twist into a larger bun and wrap it around the outside of the smaller bun. Pin the ends beneath and then use a bit of shine wax to tame any flyaways.
