What to Know
They say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. And in the case of North West and her famous dad Ye, that seems to be true. The tween has been dabbling in music over the past few years, including features on tracks by her dad and FKA twigs. She released her own single earlier this month that addresses her controversial fashion choices, and now it appears that she’s signed with a new record label. And it’s the same label releasing Ye’s upcoming twelfth album. While no details have been released, it sounds like there’s more music coming.
Her label is a pretty big deal.
North has signed with Gamma, an independent music company founded by former Apple executive Larry Jackson, Rolling Stone reported. Sources confirmed to the outlet that she was already in the studio working on new music.
The label launched in 2023 and has attracted some big names in the music industry including Mariah Carey, Usher and Snoop Dogg. They also teamed up with Ye for the release of Bully, which drops on March 20, 2026.
According to the outlet, Gamma released North’s latest single, “Piercing on My Hand,” which was released on February 6. The track was produced by her dad alongside Will Frenchman.
Her lyrics sound like they were written by a 12-year-old.
The track includes lyrics like “Piercing on my hand, the other holdin’ bands,” “No friends, just filter, you wouldn’t understand,” and “Went to school for two days, then I got banned.”
The 12-year-old multi-hyphenate performed the song for the first time with her dad at his Mexico City concert back in January in front of a crowd of 40,000 people. They also performed his 2014 dedication to his oldest called “Only One,” as well as two other Ye tracks.
Apparently, she may also be broadening her horizons to fashion.
Mom Kim Kardashian applied for a trademark for the company “NOR11” on January 14, People reported. Documents obtained by the outlet show the applications are for a variety of fashion and accessories. They include dresses, loungewear, shoes, jewelry, handbags and makeup cases.
North West is leading the next generation of nepo babies.
Rolling Stone article writer Jeff Ihaza said that as “the celebrity children of the 2010s come of age and follow in their parents’ footsteps, we’ve arrived at the next generation of nepo babies.”
Speaking specifically about North West, he said that given her understanding of online culture and fearlessness when it comes to music, fashion and self-expression, she’s “less a carbon copy of her parents than a Gen Alpha translation.”
