We’ve all been there. Your little Picasso gets a little too enthusiastic with her art project, and now her masterpiece is all over the back seat of your car. So how do you remove pen marks from leather? Here are a few different methods to try using solvents you probably already have around the house. And if your artist has pen marks all over herself, we have the solution for that, too.
Caution: Make sure and use all of these in well-ventilated areas, rinse well and keep kids away from all hazardous materials while cleaning.
Method 1: Hairspray
Spray the ink spot with hairspray. Let it sit for about a minute, but do not let it dry. Rub it with a paper towel. If the spot doesn't come out, wet it again with hairspray and add a drop of clear detergent. Rub with your fingers and rinse with water.
Method 2: Rubbing alcohol
Remove the stain with rubbing alcohol if hairspray does not work. Apply the alcohol and rub the stain with a cotton swab, then follow with a clean, damp microfiber cloth. Repeat the process with a clean cotton swab.
Method 3: Nail polish remover
Lift deeper-set ink stains with nail polish remover. Apply a small amount onto the stain with a cotton swab. Rub it gently and blot it with a clean, damp cloth. Repeat the process with a clean cotton swab.
Method 4: Brake parts cleaner
Apply aerosol brake parts cleaner to deep ink stains. Use this strong solvent with caution, and do not use brake parts cleaner that foams. Place a small amount on a cotton swab and rub the stain. Blot with a clean cloth.
