How to Remove Hard Stains in Clothes

Ink

Step 1

Spray the stain generously with hairspray.

Step 2

Let sit for five minutes, and launder right away.

Step 3

Check for any traces of the stain before putting the garment in the dryer as the heat from the dryer will set the stain permanently.

Blood

Step 1

Soak the blood stain in cold water as soon as possible. Saturate the stain with white vinegar, and blot (don't rub) with a clean cloth.

Step 2

Continue blotting until the blood is gone.

Step 3

Rinse well with water to remove the vinegar smell.

Coffee

Step 1

Make a paste with Borax and water

Step 2

Apply the paste to the coffee stain and let it sit for 30 minutes.

Step 3

Rinse well, and launder as usual

Grease

Step 1

Apply rubbing alcohol to the grease stain and blot (don't rub) with a clean cloth.

Step 2

Blot until the majority of the grease stain is gone.

Step 3

Apply dish detergent and let sit for several minutes. Rinse well, and launder as usual.

Rust

Step 1

Sprinkle the stain liberally with cream of tartar, and fold the garment to keep the cream of tartar on the stain.

Step 2

Fill a sink or pot with hot water, and submerge the garment in the water for five minutes.

Step 3

Rinse well, and launder as usual.
