Homemade Avocado Moisturizers for Dry Skin

The Basic

Cut a ripe avocado in half and remove the skin and pit. Mash the meat in a bowl using a fork. Get it to a creamy consistency and then smear the avocado over any dry areas of skin on your bodacious bod. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then hop in the shower and rinse it off. Dr. Ava Shamban, a Los Angeles dermatologist, speaking in "InStyle" magazine, recommends this treatment weekly.

The Hard Hitter

You'll get the added benefits of beta carotene, the natural humectant properties of honey and the moisturizing power of cream with this whopper. Mix the pulverized meat of one avocado, one cooked and mashed carrot, a few tablespoons of honey, one beaten egg and a dollop of heavy cream in a bowl. Mix until it has no lumps. Smooth the mixture over the dry areas of your skin and leave it on until it dries. Drying should take around 15 minutes. Rinse well and check out your glow. Fiorella Valdesolo, writing in "Glamour" magazine, says her skin looks much brighter after using this concoction.

The Slougher

This mixture combines moisturizing ingredients with other ingredients that will help slough off those gross dead skin cells that dull your dry skin. Peel one ripe avocado, remove the pit, cut it into pieces and place it in a medium-sized bowl. Add the juice from half an orange, 1 tsp. of fresh lemon juice and 1 tsp. of extra virgin olive oil. Mash all the ingredients together until creamy. Apply the mixture to your dry skin, being sure to stay away from your eyes. Lie down and let the mask do its duty for 20 to 25 minutes. Wash it off with alternating warm and cold water and then give your skin a final splash of cold water. Apply a toner if you wish and slather on a lush moisturizer to lock in the buttery smoothness.

The Soother

If your dry skin is all red, itchy and irritated, this mask will not only moisturize but will also soothe your ravaged skin. Peel half of an avocado, scoop out the meat and dice it up. Mix in 1/2 cup of buttermilk (or plain unflavored yogurt) and one egg yolk. Mash up all the ingredients until you have a smooth paste. Pile it on dry skin, taking care to stay away from your eyes. Leave it on for five minutes. Then place a second layer right on top of the first layer of paste. Leave it on an additional 10 minutes. Rinse it off with warm and then cool water. Tone if you like and then put some moisturizer on your dry spots to seal in the extra moisture.
