Easter Games for Kids

With Easter upon us, we all know that the scramble to find fun activities is about to begin. Easter egg hunts are the staple activity; from toddlers to adults, we all love the thrill of the hunt. Everyone wants to be the one who finds the most eggs, and who wouldn't like the excuse to enjoy an afternoon in a blossoming garden?

As much fun as egg hunts are, they're not the only game to be enjoyed outside. This year might be the year to try something new. Surprise your family and friends with a twist on the egg hunt or do something completely different like bunny bowling. Change it up, and boldly test out some new Easter themed games.

Check out the wide variety of kid’s Easter games that can be played on that Sunday afternoon. Who knows, one of them might replace the classic egg hunt.

With Easter comes the springtime blooms and ideally, the skies are clear and the sun is shining. After family and friends have eaten a yummy brunch and Easter baskets have been opened, here are some ways of getting the kids to burn off their energy — and maybe some of that sugar.

Easter Egg Hunt
Of course, I have to begin with the tried and true egg hunt. However, instead of stuffing the eggs with candy try filling them with little fidgets.

Easter Bean Bag Toss
Competitions are never a bad thing, right? Spilt up into teams and see which group makes the most winning tosses.

Easter Eggs-ersizes
A twist on the classic egg hunt can happen with small changes. Instead of simply finding the egg, what if they have to bunny hop to the next egg? Get your kids moving in a variety of ways with this game.

Walk the Egg
Yes, the old spoon and egg walk game. This one, like the egg hunt, is an all-time favorite. And when it comes to balancing anything, the anticipation of an epic fail gets everyone gleefully involved.

Bunny Ring Toss
A contest cannot go wrong when bunny ears are being worn. Toss rings to see if they land on the wearable and inflatable bunny ears.

Egg Roll
Get ready for the family to get a little dirty. Use your nose to push an egg across the lawn. Whoever gets across first gets their slice of dessert!

Bring the outdoors inside: Indoor Easter games

Sometimes spring weather means April showers and that means that playing outside is not an option. But don't let that get you or your kids down, the day can still be full of games. There's fun to be had in the comfort of your home.

Egg Tower
With cut paper towel rolls and boiled or raw eggs, the kids have to figure out how those materials make the tallest tower.

Ping Pong Straw Race
If you have kids, then chances are that you have Duplos or Legos around the house. Grab some of them along with some straws and ping pong balls to put together this seated race. Whoever can get the most ping pong balls to sit atop of the straws wins.

Egg Scramble
When games and learning are combined, parents rejoice! Have a bit of fun with this word scramble game. Real eggs or paper egg cutouts can be used to make this Easter scramble a success.

Egg Scavenger Hunt with Math
Another dynamic duo — eggs and math games! Strategically place eggs around the house with math problems hidden inside that instruct the players on how many steps to take to the next egg.

DIY Easter Games

DIY games can be and should be created with the whole family. So, don’t let the kids have all the fun — join in on these activities.

“When we let go of everything we ‘NEED’ to do, we give ourselves and our children room to play,” mom Carolina Droze wrote for Living Skills in Schools. “We can build unforgettable memories and teach them and ourselves how to find enjoyment in all areas of life.”

Hungry Bunny Toss
If you have a lot of Amazon boxes lying around, choose the largest one and create a bunny cut out of it. Toss your bunny carrots until its belly is full.

DIY Bowling Game
Okay, this one might be semi-DIY. If you do not have bowling pins, then an option will be to purchase some. However, turning those pins into bunnies will be a delight!

Egg Advent Calendar
Create an advent calendar that leads up to Easter. You and maybe even your kids can all decide what the gift will be for each day.

Flamingo Tic Tac Toe
This DIY project gives you an excuse to purchase some pink flamingos. Make a giant size chessboard out of playmate foam pieces and then let the flamingos go to work.

In the end, continuing and building family traditions has a lasting effect. "Traditions help create warm, positive memories that can be recalled fondly and draw family members back to one another year after year," shared licensed clinical social worker, Lisa Cossey to Youth First. Know that as silly as these games may be, they are helping your family establish memories that will carry them into their future.
