As a kid, I used to love playing with the baby doll toy bottles that made it look like the liquid inside was disappearing.
My siblings and I would spend hours fascinated by the two bottles filled with orange and white liquid, wondering where on earth it went. (The ’90s were a different time, am I right?)
Today’s kids still have the joy of the disappearing baby bottle play food, but their pretend food is also elevated just a bit on the cool scale:
Enter this grilled cheese play food with “real” melting cheese action that just might be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.
Hopscotch Lane My Baby Doll’s Time for Lunch Set

The play food set is from Walmart and is shockingly just over $12 — it includes 14 full pieces to make an adorable, travel-friendly play food set. The set includes:
- One stretchy “melty” grilled cheese sandwich
- 2 kiwi slices
- 4 watermelon slices
- 2 cucumber slices
- Kabob “skewers”
- 1 food cup wrapper
- A convenient storage plate with a lid
I love that the play food comes with a lid, because not only does it make it ideal for taking on the go (you know toddlers and kids love to take their favorite toys with them wherever they go), but it also helps keep the food from getting lost in the abyss of the playroom.
The pieces are sized for pretend play with dolls and are recommended for ages 3 and up. All of the fruit can be assembled and reassembled onto the kabob, loaded into the food cup wrapper, or served up fresh as individual slices to their hungry dolls.
Melting Cheese Action
I first came across this grilled cheese play food toy while scrolling, and after a quick search, I realized that other parents were equally enthralled with the toy as I am.
“Okay that grilled cheese though,” wrote one commenter.
“That grilled cheese is AWESOME,” added another.
“WAIT I’M NOT OVER THAT CHEESE PULL!” exclaimed another.
Honestly, neither are we, but I do know what I’ll be buying my kids on my next Walmart shopping trip!
