5 Fun Family-Friendly Winter Activities

During the winter, it can be easy to run out of fun activities to do with your family — and after a few days of avoiding harsh winter weather, everyone can feel pretty restless. If you’ve been going a little stir-crazy this winter, don’t worry! We’ve got you covered, with family-friendly activities everyone in your family will love.

1. Go ice skating

Whether you’re a pro or a total newbie, ice skating is fun for everyone. Take the whole family, bundle up in your best cold weather gear, and rent some skates! Even if you spend most of the time just trying not to fall, you’ll still have a blast. (Plus, you’ll all love laughing at each other’s biggest flails.)

2. Hit the slopes

No, not the ski slopes — the sledding slopes! Find a hill near your home (it doesn’t have to be very steep) and get the whole family involved in sledding. If you’re already master sledders, try racing each other to the bottom of the hill!

3. Take a trip to the movie theater

If you’re looking for an activity that will keep you warm, cozy, and entertained, go see a family-friendly movie like The Call of the Wild! The movie, in theaters starting on February 21, is based on the classic novel and stars Harrison Ford. Parents will love the emotional story and incredible scenery, while kids will be obsessed with the dramatic adventure scenes and sweet, quirky dog.

4. Have a family pajama day

When it’s too chilly to go outside, stay in all day — and don’t change out of pajamas! We may be well past Christmas, but this is the perfect chance to break out those matching PJs. While you’re super cozy, spend some time baking cookies, watching movies, or playing your favorite board games.

5. Build an igloo

If you live in an area that gets tons of snow, try building your very own igloo. If that’s too much work, build an awesome snow fort instead! No snow in your area? No problem — build a blanket fort inside.
