Text much? If you do, then you probably have a set of text acronyms that are your go-to set. I know I do, but I'm trying to expand my repertoire and prepare for the future when my children are older and there will be times that I need to communicate with them via text. In that spirit, I've put together a list of text acronyms that Latina moms can adopt to communicate with their kids in a sort of shorthand because ain't no one got time to type it all out.
NSSS: No salgas sin sueter
Kid texts you to tell you they are going somewhere real quick and you reply with the ol' "don't leave without a sweater."
COTC: Calmate o te calmo
Even via text, a mom can sense when a kid is giving her attitude and this "calm yourself or I'll calm you" warning will let your child know they need to respect a mother.
PV: Ponte Vicks
Child texts complaining of a runny nose, sore throat, fever or whatever and you can quickly remind them of the healing powers of Vicks.
TH: ¿Tienes Hambre?
I don't care how old a child is; as a mom, you always worry if they're getting enough to eat.
HCEC or TFELC : Hay comida en casa or tenemos frijoles en la casa
This is a good follow-up if your child responds that they are hungry. It lets them know that you have food at home so that they don't stop at McDonald's or the corner store on the way home.
NSYHAH: No sleepover, you have a home
If you're not into letting your kids sleep over at other people's homes, that's OK.
INAYTCHITY: I'm not asking you to come home, I'm telling you
Need your kid to come home, but they think it's negotiable. Send them INAYTCHITY.
LTC: ¿Limpiaste tu cuarto?
You get a text from your child asking permission for something, and you respond with a question because you better believe they aren't getting permission until they clean their room. No cochinos in this mama's house.
GAD: Gracias a Dios
All kinds of uses for this one. I know my mom likes to say it at least once during each conversation we have.
TCMM: Te crees muy muy
For those times when they forget who's in charge.
SSCDR: Sana, sana, colita de rana
When you can't be there in person to rub their boo-boos and chant, "sana, sana, colita de rana…"
CTMNIO: Can't talk; my novela is on
Seriously, no texting is allowed unless it's an emergency when our shows are on.
DDC: Deja de ching… well, you know the rest
You said no to something and they keep text-nagging you. Put a stop to it with DDC.
TQM: Te quiero mucho
Because we never get tired of telling our kids how much we love them.
