I cannot even fathom how many times I've told my daughter to stop playing with her food. Usually, she is far more interested in building castles with her mashed potatoes, or making a forest with her broccoli, than actually, you know, eating it.
This is a plight familiar to many parents.
But sometimes you've got to just let it go and, instead, embrace and even encourage playing with food, just like Chris Durso of the culinary culture blog Foodiggity.

Last year, Durso began the Foodnited States of America project with his 8-year-old.
"It began innocently enough," Durso wrote, "with, 'Dad, what if you made states, but, like, they were made of food, like?' My response was something along the lines of, 'That's been done to death already, son. Go to bed.'"
"The heir to the Foodiggity empire added, 'But what if they like had funny names like New Pork or New Jerky, like?' Now, we were on to something."
And something it is. Using a wide array of food items from kale to spam, the Durso duo create hilarious food puns that are irresistible (and delicious). They're a little over halfway done with their project, adding new states to the Foodiggity Instagram account every now and then. It's fun, silly, educational and delicious.
Really, you can't ask for more than that. I don't know about you, but I could totally go for a slice of Piedaho right about now.
