Kate Middleton made a rare public outing on Sunday, July 14, 2024. She is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. She attended Wimbledon and brought Princess Charlotte and sister Pippa Middleton along as well.
A beautiful moment occurred when the ladies got to the Royal Box at Centre Court. The fellow tennis enthusiasts stood up and gave Kate a standing ovation. Kate was visibly moved by the gesture. Princess Charlotte looked on with pride. Photographer Karwai Tang caught the special moment, immortalizing it for all to see.
Kate, Charlotte, and Pippa took in the men's singles final. Carlos Alcaraz of Spain and Novak Djokovic of Serbia battled it out. If this sounds familiar, you are not mistaken. The same men went head to head last year as well.
Karwai knew he witnessed an emotional moment and was glad to capture it for the world to see. “When [Kate] usually comes in, she walks down the steps and into her seat. She doesn’t normally stand and wave. But she stood for a while and took it all in. For her to acknowledge it and take in the applause was special," he explained.

Kate has served as the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club since 2016. This is the organization behind Wimbledon. The event holds a special place in Kate's heart, and organizers were hoping she would be able to attend this year's festivities. Her parents attended on July 4, 2024, just in case she wasn't able to make it.
Karwai believes that Kate's showing at Wimbledon is a sign of good things to come for the princess. "She seemed to look no different from the last Wimbledon. It felt like she is back," he mused. “For them to cheer and clap when they came in was a great support for her. Wimbledon had been waiting with bated breath for her to return and she was back.”
As the patron, Kate typically presents the trophies for both the men's and women's singles finals. This year she was only able to do the men's. She presented Carlos Alcaraz with his prize for his second consecutive win. Kate's outing at Wimbledon marks only the second time she has made a public appearance since undergoing cancer treatment. She also attended Trooping the Color in June of 2024.
