Kelly welcomed her first daughter in April

The new mom said that life "still feels like a dream sometimes" as she opened up about how her first full month of motherhood went. Kelly spent the first 30 days of her daughter's life following the tradition of Chinese postpartum confinement, where the new mom is supposed to remain at home and rest while being cared for by a nanny (called a yuesao) who comes to help her family.

It gave Kelly the opportunity to focus on her own healing and recovery

While she admitted that "some people get stir-crazy" having to stay in their homes for a month, Kelly really enjoyed the special private time she got to spend with her family. "It's also an excuse for me to just take some time for myself," she continued. "I feel very lucky in a sense — I have a lot of support around."

The yuesao also made it easy for Kelly to stay comfortable as she healed

Not only did the nanny handle tasks like cooking, but she also tended to Kelly's physical needs. "During this time, you're not supposed to work too much," she explained.

"The main thing is to keep your body warm. You're supposed to wear socks all the time and be on bed rest. You're not supposed to walk around too much. You can't go outside, no wind, no direct air conditioning, and no fans."

She did a great job of keeping Kelly cozy

One of the main things about this time period is staying warm, which Kelly said her nanny accomplished with the help of some natural remedies. "At night she normally does a massage, and then I soak my feet in ginger water for 30 minutes, which is supposed to warm up your body," she explained.

As for her newborn, she too was kept snuggly warm with the help of blankets and extra cuddles.
