With the 2022 elections just around the corner, it's never felt like a more important time to show up for the causes we care about. November 8 is a time when we can all weigh in on issues that affect our whole families, from abortion rights to gun control to finally pushing forward measures that really address global climate change. As moms, we know that we vote for ourselves but we also vote for our kids. We all want our children to grow up in a world that is safe and where they can dream of a big future.
And while celebrity moms aren't like us in a whole lot of ways (multiple nannies on call, a glam squad to make sure they always look perfectly rested, and access to private planes and the best schools, just to name a few), they too want to ensure that their kids have a bright future. While some celebrities choose to stay silent on matters of politics or other forms of activism to avoid alientating fans who might disagree with them, some aren't afraid to take a bold stand.
Here, we're highlighting 15 celebrity moms who are using their fame, power, time, and money to support causes that they are passionate about. May these famous women serve as inspiration to remember to get to the polls this year and to advocate for the causes that matter.
Katy Perry
Aside from being a super famous pop star, Katy Perry is a global ambassador for the international charity UNICEF and a volunteer with Baby2Baby. She's also been a vocal advocate for many political causes, including get-out-the-vote efforts and supporting Democratic candidates with fundraiser appearances and support.
Jane Fonda
There may not be a celebrity mom more known for activism than Jane Fonda. Although she made us all laugh on Grace and Frankie and has a long movie career behind her, it's arguable that her biggest contributions have been in activism. From taking a very unpopular stand against the war in Vietnam to her current work around voting rights and climate change, Jane has never been afraid to use her voice!
Martha Stewart
Martha Stewart was one of the many celebrities who used their fame to promote the importance of getting the COVID-19 vaccination. At the time, she shared, "I am so proud of and grateful to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff who are wading through the red tape and confusion of the distribution of these very important vaccines. I am excited to have received my dosage and look forward to the booster."
Mandy Moore
Mandy Moore, who recently welcomed her second child, has been an activist for several issues affecting children, including the importance of safe gun control regulations. After yet another tragic mass shooting, she argued, "Any member of Congress who is not actively in the fight for gun safety reform is not fit to represent us. Period. The inaction is reprehensible. Two mass shootings in 24 hours? We simply can't stand by and let this continue to happen."
Beyoncé
There are few celebs who have a bigger platform than the Queen B herself. Beyoncé has been an advocate for many issues, including LGBT rights. In addition to casting same-sex couples and trans individuls in her music videos and marketing materials for her Ivy Park line, she also spoke words of encouragement during a 2020 speech. "If you're part of a group that's called 'other' — a group that does not get the chance to be center stage — build your own stage, and make them see you. Your queerness is beautiful, your Blackness is beautiful, your compassion, your understanding, your fight for people who may be different from you is beautiful."
Beyoncé has been honored for her work several times, including winning the award for "Most Charitable Celeb" by DoSomething.org.
Gigi Hadid
Supermodel mama Gigi Hadid puts her money where her activism is. In March 2022, she announced that she would donate all of her earnings from fall 2022 runway shows to causes she cares about. "Having a set Fashion Month schedule has meant that my colleagues and I often present new fashion collections during heartbreaking and traumatic times in history. We don't have control over most of our work schedules, but we would like to walk 'for' something," she explained.
"I am pledging to donate my earnings from the fall 2022 shows to aid those suffering from the war in Ukraine, as well as continuing to support those experiencing the same in Palestine. Our eyes and hearts must be open to all human injustice. May we all see each other as brothers and sisters, beyond politics, beyond race, beyond religion. At the the end of the day, innocent lives pay for war — not leaders."
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie has been an activist for years (including being a UN special envoy for refugees) and now she's encouraging her kids to join her. In February 2022, she even brought her oldest daughter, Zahara, with her to Washington, D.C., to show support for a cause she cares about. "Heading into the Senate's introduction of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act," she wrote on Instagram at the time. "I'm grateful and humbled to join with dedicated advocates and legislators. I'm also glad to share in the advocacy with Zahara."
Kristen Bell
Kristen Bell has been a passionate advocate for many causes, including supporting access to childhood vaccines, women's rights, and Black Lives Matter. For her most recent birthday, she raised more than $100,000 for the United Nations Women's Peace and Humanitarian Fund, which helps support "incredible women working on the front lines to prevent conflict, respond to humanitarian disasters, combat sexual- and gender-based violence, and generate economic opportunity for their communities."
Salma Hayek
Actress Salma Hayek is passionate about causes that impact the health and safety of women. She launched a campaign in 2020 to combat domestic violence against women, which increased during the pandemic. She's also been funding a charity called Chime for Change, alongside Beyoncé, since 2013.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus
In addition to being an avid environmentalist, Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus is deeply engaged in political activism. She regularly promotes get-out-the-vote efforts and has been raising funds for abortion rights and local abortion care providers.
Amanda Peet
Actress Amanda Peet was inspired to become an activist for childhood vaccination after her daughter (then 2 years old) was seriously ill with whooping cough. She has worked with the United Nations Shot@Life program and told People in 2020, "I feel so passionately about this topic. The thing that moves me is that we have a cure for these diseases. We have the medicine — we just have to get it to the children."
Taraji P. Henson
Actress Taraji P. Henson is a passionate activist for efforts to support access to mental health care, especially for historically excluded communities. She founded The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, named in honor of her father, who suffered mental health challenges without resources or support. "The Foundation exists to both normalize and improve access to mental health services for Black communities in hopes of eradicating the stigma around seeking help and support," according to the organization's website.
Jennifer Garner
Jennifer Garner, who we all secretly wish was our real-life mom friend, is most passionate about early childhood issues. She's been a board member of Save the Child since 2014. According to the nonprofit, "Jennifer has held the position of Artist Ambassador for Save the Children for more than 10 years. In addition to bringing Save the Children's early childhood education programs to her home state of West Virginia, she has advocated on Capitol Hill and traveled to Arkansas, California, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington to meet with lawmakers, press, and philanthropists to raise awareness and funds for the organization."
Elisabeth Hasselbeck
There is a bit of a stereotype that all celebrities are Democrats or support progressive causes. But former reality TV star and host of The View Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been a vocal supporter of many Republican candidates and causes, including being opposed to abortion rights.
Busy Philipps

Busy Philipps is super passionate about causes such as abortion rights and rights for transgender individuals. She's a frequent campaigner for local and state elections, especially when it comes to fighting back against laws that hurt women and the trans community. As she shared on Instagram, "There is no equality without bodily autonomy."
