Model Emily Ratajkowski is getting candid about her custody concerns. In a new interview, the 31-year-old mom admitted to being afraid of losing her son if she says too much about what’s been going on in her life. Emily hinted at a “horrifying” year and shared why she’s choosing to stay mum about most of it.

Emily shared her concerns with the Los Angeles Times

She described needing to keep her son — 2-year-old Sylvester “Sly” Apollo, who she shares with ex Sebastian Bear-McClard — in mind whenever she shares anything about herself and as she navigates her life in the public eye. “I’m scared,” she said. “I’m learning that outspoken women don’t often get their children.”
Emily filed for divorce from Sebastian in 2022
Since then, she’s kept the details about what went wrong in her four-year marriage to herself, despite plenty of speculation that Sebastian had multiple affairs during the length of their relationship. (The film producer was also recently accused of sexual misconduct by two women.) Instead, Emily seems to have shifted her focus to rebuilding her life and spending as much time as she can with her little boy.
She has hinted about some of what she's been through
Without offering any details, Emily mentioned that she’s been living through one of the “most traumatic experiences of [her] entire life” over the past year. Considering what we do know about the past 12 months of Emily’s life — she’s been hard at work on growing her modeling career and has been romantically linked to several high-profile celebrities including Harry Styles, Brad Pitt, and Pete Davidson — we can only guess at what she could be talking about.
When it comes to her son, things appear to be going well
It’s obvious that Emily has been through plenty of heartache after splitting from her husband, but it doesn’t seem like she’s letting that pain get in the way of her relationship with Sly. Later in the interview, Emily talked about how early on her bond with her son was formed, confessing that she often talked to him while he was still in the womb.

The mother-son duo's connection is as strong as ever
While Emily may be scared of losing custody of Sly — right now, Sly lives full-time with his mom while still getting plenty of opportunities to see his dad during the week — she and her son seem to have a psychic link. In fact, Emily said she even helped talk Sly through his birth.
“I’m so scared, and I know you’re so scared,” she recalled telling him just hours before her labor started. “But we’re going to do this together, and I promise to keep you safe. Let’s do it. I want to meet you.”
With a bond like that, we understand why Emily might be worried about losing out on any time with her child.
