Being a mom can be quite challenging at times: You’re constantly sleep-deprived, battling strong-willed toddlers, and researching the best resources to care for your children. From researching how to overcome sleep regressions to what products to use on your child’s sensitive skin, there’s a lot on a mom’s mind, and supermodel Chanel Iman can certainly relate. The 32-year-old sat down with Mom.com to talk about the challenges of caring for her daughter’s skin and how she instills confidence in her little ones.

Chanel, who has two daughters and is pregnant with her third, shared that her 3-year-old has struggled with eczema, and their journey to find the right products hasn’t always been easy for them.
“I don’t even remember her not having eczema,” Chanel said of her 3-year-old. “I’m just now getting to a place where I’m comfortable with what I’m doing and with her skin.”
Eventually, Chanel discovered Health in Her Hue, a digital platform connecting women of color to culturally sensitive healthcare providers and community support. She credits the platform with educating her on how to care for her daughter’s sensitive skin. The soon-to-be mom of three said that Aveeno’s Health in Her Hue has provided her family with resources and information that’s been “very helpful for our family.”
The mom of two little girls added that there was a time when her daughter couldn’t go to the beach or park because of her sensitive skin.
“It was a nightmare for our family,” she said, adding that once she “started to be consistent with the [Aveeno] baby products and finding the right resources and information that I needed, everything changed.”
As for how the supermodel teaches confidence to her daughters with sensitive skin, Chanel said she instills in them that “beauty lies within.” She also leads by example as she learns to care for her own skin, an experience she referred to as a ”journey.”

“With all of my pregnancies, my skin has gotten more dry,” she revealed. “I have to apply Aveeno tone and texture moisturizer every day just to feel comfortable and to hydrate and take the itch away.”
While Chanel and her family prepare to send her oldest daughter to kindergarten, she’s also looking forward to preparing their home for another little one.
“I’m just a lot more calm,” she said, adding that she’s on top of everything and focusing on taking of herself and mental health.
But for now, Chanel is working to close the eczema equality gap by sharing her family’s journey to spotlight eczema’s appearance across Black and brown skin tones over time. The busy mom is also encouraging parents to raise awareness of how eczema appears on their own children’s skin of color.
Families can share their child’s eczema journey with @AveenoBaby on Instagram or @AveenoBabyUS on TikTok between now and the end of Eczema Awareness Month on October 31. Caregivers who share their journey will receive a complimentary Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm and educational booklet, so they can feel empowered to recognize and treat their children’s eczema.
