The world has been excitedly watching each of Bindi Irwin's new bump updates throughout her pregnancy. With many people having grown up watching Bindi on her dad Steve Irwin's Crocodile Hunter show, it's as if one of our own family members is pregnant. And Bindi's been keeping us all well informed throughout.
The Wildlife Warrior, as she calls herself, also had a fun twist on the classic "my baby is now the size of an orange" updates. Instead of comparing her daughter to foods, Bindi's been comparing her baby to various animals around the Australia Zoo where her family lives and works. One week, her daughter was the size of a hummingbird and later the size of an emu chick.
It's clear that Bindi and her husband Chandler Powell are so excited to be first time parents (they're due date is this month!), and they've graciously let us all in on their journey. Check out Bindi's growing belly in all her cute bumpdates.
Carrying a Human Joey
Baby koalas and kangaroos are called joeys, so Chandler and Bindi couldn't resist a photoshoot with their growing human joey and some of their animal joeys. "Baby Wildlife Warrior is about the size of a hummingbird now," Bindi said, kicking off a cute tradition throughout her pregnancy where she would compare her bump size to various animals at her family's zoo.
Size of a Pygmy Possum
A month later, Bindi updated fans with a new bump photo. "Baby girl is doing great. Every time we get an ultrasound she's incredibly energetic and always moving around. She's now about the same size as a mountain pygmy-possum," she captioned the picture. From a hummingbird to a possum, their daughter was growing quick!
That Loving Look
As her bump continued to grow, Bindi started posting pictures more frequently. "Dinner with the fam and baby bump. There are no words to describe how much I love our baby girl," she wrote. She's looking at her baby so lovingly here, we can already tell she's going to be a great mom. No size update for this one, but since it was about two weeks after the pygmy possum photo, maybe her daughter was the size of a regular possum at this point.
Curious Giraffe
During a maternity photoshoot with her husband, one of the family's giraffes came to check out what was going on. "We're getting close to the halfway point and I think our Australia Zoo animal family is excited to meet our daughter next year," Bindi joked about Forest the giraffe photobombing the couple.
The Wonders of Maternity Jeans
Midway through her pregnancy, Bindi discovered the wonder of maternity jeans, which are far superior to regular jeans. "Now that I know the comforts of maternity jeans, I don’t think I’ll ever be able go back. Any other mamas out there that can relate?" she asked on Instagram. Yes, Bindi. We totally relate.
Size of an Emu Chick
At 20 weeks, Bindi's baby was officially the size of a freshly hatched emu. "The love I have for my sweetheart husband and our beautiful daughter is boundless," Bindi captioned this sweet photo. (By the way, we love this way of tracking growth. So much more original than when we compare babies to fruits and veggies.)
In Her Best Khaki
Terri Irwin and her children have carried on Steve Irwin's legacy in many ways, including with their zoo uniform of all khaki, all the time. And that didn't change when Bindi got pregnant. Many of her bump shots feature her in her signature color. This bumpdate is particularly sweet because it features the whole Irwin family by her side. She quoted Walt Disney in her caption, "Life is beautiful. It's about giving. It's about family."
26 Week Check In
By the time Bindi hit 26 weeks, her bump was really beginning to pop. She told her followers that her daughter was now the size of a shingleback lizard, which run about 16 inches in size. The zoo has its own shingleback named pinecone, and Bindi included a photo of the animal in this Insta slideshow.
Proud Parents
"All the love in the world," Bindi captioned this picture of her and husband Chandler with their hands on her growing belly. Chandler then commented, "Our little family. Baby and I both love you." This duo is really too cute for words. We can't wait to see them become the best parents of their little girl.
Photo Re-Creation
Of all the bumpdates Bindi has given throughout her pregnancy, this is one of our favorites. She and Chandler re-created an iconic photo of Steve and Terri Irwin when Terri was pregnant with Bindi's brother Robert. In that photo, Steve and Bindi were kissing Terri's growing belly, but Chandler filled in for them in this pic. Click the right arrow on Bindi's Instagram photo to see the original.
Bump's Getting Big!
We can't actually see Bindi's belly in this photo, but Chandler described how big it was getting in his caption. "With our baby girl growing, @bindisueirwin had to borrow my khaki shirt as hers isn't buttoning over her gorgeous bump. Love my girls!" he wrote. Sure enough, Bindi was wearing a "Chandler" zoo uniform that day. Anything to stick to the khaki!
Fur Baby
In addition to all the wild animals they have at the zoo, Bindi and Chandler have an everyday pet, too — Piggy the dog. And Bindi hasn't forgotten her first baby. The couple is often cuddling with Piggy in their Instagram photos. "All the kisses," Bindi captioned this photo of Piggy resting on her bump.
Ready to Pop
In late January, Bindi and Chandler filmed a bump update for their reality show Crikey! It's the Irwins. "I thought I was big then," Bindi joked about earlier in her pregnancy while cradling her growing bump. Her belly was really popping in the clip, because she was getting so close to her due date. Any day now!
Setting up the Nursery
With baby on the way any day, Bindi and Chandler can rest assured that they're ready for her arrival. They have the nursery set up and everything. For decor, they went with a kind of floral meadow theme featuring some rabbit and butterfly decals. Can't have a baby's room without any animals in it! Not in this family.
Family Time
With her due date approaching, Bindi was trying to soak in as much family time as possible. She, Chandler, her mom, and her brother went on a trip in early February to see the famous Uluru rock in Australia. Bindi wore an elephant T-shirt over her bump, and it was a nod to her brother who actually took that elephant photo.
Rain or Shine
"Rain or shine, forever loving you," Bindi captioned this loving couple photo. Her bump was visible even in her rain jacket as the happy duo posed for one of their final bumpdates before Bindi will give birth. They both seem super ready and excited to be parents. "Being a dad is already the highlight of my life," Chandler wrote on Instagram early in Bindi's pregnancy.
