Freezing eggs and embryos is something that a lot of celebrities have talked about, but the scenario Anna Kendrick is involved in seems to be a bit trickier than others. During a new podcast interview, Anna revealed she created embryos with a toxic ex who she considered her husband at the time. Oh, no …
Anna recently appeared on Dax Shepard's 'Armchair Expert' podcast
She opened up about the unraveling of a relationship with an ex, who she didn't name, and at that point, they'd been together so long that they were planning their family together, including freezing embryos. Then, it all began to fall apart.
"I was with someone — this was somebody I lived with, for all intents and purposes my husband. We had embryos together, this was my person,'" she said. "And then, about six years in, about somewhere around there, I remember telling my brother, when things had first kind of gone down, 'I'm living with a stranger. Like, I don't know what's happening.'"
She felt like their breakup meant that she was "impossible"
During their relationship, Anna had been made to think that he was just "tolerating" her, so what did that mean when he wasn't able to do that anymore?
"There was an inherent thing of me being so rejectable that this person who loved me very deeply for six years, it suddenly occurred to him, how awful I was or something. The shame, that lingers much longer," she admitted.
She decided to "dismantle" her life and take time off for her mental health
"I started seeing two therapists a week and I started trying to learn to meditate and I got into Al-Anon and all of these things ended up being very wonderful things for me in the long run, but initially went into them thinking, 'Tell me how to stop being crazy. Tell me how to stop feeling anything,'" she said.
Now it seems like she's doing much better
She admitted in an Instagram post that the podcast wasn't necessarily an easy thing for her to do, even after having listened to Dax for so long.
"I was really terrified having this conversation and I’m SO grateful to Dax and Monica for having me, and for the space they create. I cry like 4 times, and then compensate by talking fast and trying to sound super put together … and then cry again. So, classic Kendrick moves throughout," she wrote in her caption.
It sounds like Anna's doing a lot better these days
With the release of her latest movie Alice, Darling just around the corner, on January 20, she has a lot to look forward to. Along with the sequel to A Simple Favor, which we now know is coming, she will be a busy lady. It's good to hear that she was able to work through something in her life that was obviously so difficult.
