Yucky Foods (According to Your Child’s Star Sign)

Is there a food your child is destined to dislike?

Let's face it, parents, kids can be extraordinarily picky. Whether they gag and grimace over stinky cheeses, spaghetti sauce or shellfish, our children won't hesitate to make their preferences known. Find out which foods your child is preordained to pass up whenever they cross their plate.

Aries

Seafood

Aries kids are drawn to rich flavors and earthy smells. The briny aroma of seafood tends to put this ram sign off in a big way. Plus, the softer texture of fish messes with their minds and they'll start heaving at first bite. The good news is that shrimp is usually loved by non-allergy-having Aries and can be a gateway food into other seafood fare.

Taurus

Cruciferous Vegetables

Unfortunately Taurus children tend to be a bit neurotic about many crunchy, fiber-rich vegetables. It's mostly due to the glucosinolate found in cruciferous veggies that can taste, to some, bitter. The good news is that gently cooking members of the cruciferous family (including brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and more) and adding a rich sauce (buttery and cheesy seems to work best for opulence-loving Taurus) can actually help these picky eaters learn to love stronger-tasting vegetables.

Gemini

Rare, Bone-In or Fatty Meats

Granted, many kids don't like meats that have visible fat, gristle, bone or blood, Gemini kids take this disdain to a whole new level. Consider Gemini the dainty diners of the zodiac. As they grow, they can gradually be introduced to small variations of doneness in red meats, but anything rarer than medium will most likely send them hiding under the table. Bones and blubber are too visceral of a reminder that the food they're eating was once a living being, so it's probably best to skip those chicken legs or T-bone steaks.

Cancer

Fried, Sunny Side Up, Soft Boiled or Poached Eggs

There's something utterly disgusting to Cancer children about a raw egg. Any evidence that an egg is anything less than completely cooked (basically: scrambled or hard-boiled) will send shivers down this crab sign's back. Unless soft, runny yolks have been introduced to a Cancer child as early as is safe to do so, they will probably always find the color, texture and idea of eating them absolutely gag-worthy.

Leo

Avocados

There are two possible reasons for this bizarre dislike of the world's most perfect, creamy fruit: 1) Your Leo child has a textural issue with avocados, or 2) your child is actually an alien from outer space, switched at birth or abducted while you were downstairs drinking wine and shopping for leggings. Since Leo children are incredibly stubborn, it's not likely they'll change their minds anytime soon, so you may want to introduce them to the beauty of guacamole STAT, and help them see the error of their ways.

Virgo

Basically, Everything

Virgo kids tend to have textural issues, weird smell phobias, problems with meats (including seafood) and deeply dislike anything spicy, sour or unfamiliar. They also retract in disgust whenever one of the many fruits and veggies they hate (or have never heard of) are presented to them as food. There IS a small ray of light. Offer your Virgo child a small amount of whatever food they don't like each and every time they eat. Because this maiden sign is curious and thoughtful, they may eventually give it a taste and discover it isn't as bad as they imagined.

Libra

Offal (aka Organ Meats)

Libra isn't exactly strange in their dislike of typically kid-unfriendly foods like liver, kidneys, heart and other innards. While only rare, brave children tend to indulge in these mineral-rich meats, Libra kids are dead-set on never, ever, not once, taking a bite of what they view as "guts." If your Libra child is low on iron and your doctor recommends a healthy serving of good, old fashioned liver and onions, laugh and ask for a supplement instead. There's no way you'll get it past your child's lips, even with all the ketchup in the world.

Scorpio

Dark Leafy Greens

While Scorpio kids may accept a rare bite or two of spinach in salad form, they're far less likely to open wide for phyto-nutrient rich kale, collards or chard (among other dark greens). Your best bet is to puree these greens and mix them into other foods (like sauces or stews) to make sure your child is getting their daily recommended servings of vitamins A, C, K, folate, calcium and iron.

Sagittarius

They Eat Anything

Congratulations, parents, you procreated the most open-minded of children in the zodiac and they have a strong willingness to try new foods, including those which they've previously tasted and didn't like. While Sagittarius children are very independent and determined, they consider life an adventure—and that includes cuisine. Once they're old enough to enjoy solid foods, take them with you to a variety of worldly restaurants and expose them to all the intriguing flavors and smells that exist for their exploration.

Capricorn

Mushrooms

The good news is that your Capricorn child is the least likely (aside from Virgo) to accidentally eat a poisonous fungi in the wild. The bad news is that anytime you try to include umami-rich mushrooms in your dinner menu, your one-track-minded Capricorn child will hold you personally accountable for ruining their meal. Cooked mushrooms remind this goat sign of snails and those are also gross to them, so good luck trying to win this gill-capped battle.

Aquarius

Tomatoes and Other "Squishy" Vegetables

Parents, you keep trying to slide lycopene-rich tomatoes into your Aquarius child's sandwiches and salads, but each time, they curl their lips in disgust and feel a little less trust in your cooking abilities. Tomatoes are acidic and squishy which (like eggplant or even passion fruit) are a distateful combination for this starry-eyed sign. Aquarius children prefer mild tasting fruits and vegetables (carrots, bananas and apples are a big hit) and their super-sensitive taste buds just can't handle the tingle of tartness and the accompanying watery squish of anything that looks, smells or tastes like a tomato.

Pisces

Raw Onions

The cruel irony is that emotional Pisces hates the one vegetable that inspires crying like none other. The intensity of onions is caused by sulfenic acids that hit their peak around 30 seconds after slicing and make your eyes water in protest. The flavor of raw onions is acidic, bitter, lightly sweet and crisp, which tends to be a gross combination for sugar-loving Pisces. Slow-cooked caramelized onions, however, appeal to Pisces' well-pronounced sweet tooth (as do apples, carrots and suprisingly, beets). Just avoid raw onions at all cost or your water-sign child may erupt in a fit of tears.
