Hilary Duff Admits She & Her Husband Made a Wild Decision Just Weeks After Reconciling

I always thought that I would be married and settled before I had my first kid. But life decided that wasn’t going to be the case. While I was a little sad, I got over it; if I got everything I wanted, what did it matter what order it happened in? And it appears that Hilary Duff feels the same. Duff, who is a mom of four, has been married twice: first she was married to Mike Comrie, with whom she shares son Luca, and now, she is married to Matthew Koma, who she has three daughters with. And while she married Comrie before the birth of their child, with Koma, she did things differently.

She shared her unfiltered thoughts on having a baby before getting married.

Duff appeared on The Morgan Stewart Show on May 26, 2026. During the interview, she revealed that she and Koma, who met in 2015, broke up more than once before eventually tying the knot.

According to Duff, when the pair “got back together, we were like, ‘We should have a baby,’ which is psycho,” she said. “Absolutely psycho. Three weeks later, I think, I was pregnant with Banks.”

Banks is the oldest of her and Koma’s children, followed by Mae and Townes. The couple wed in December 2019, about a year after Banks’ birth.

“We had the baby, got married, which was actually so fun,” she said, adding that Banks “walked me down the aisle. It was really, really fun. Luca walked Matt down the aisle.”

Despite calling it psycho, she said, “I would recommend it to people.”

Hilary Duff also recently talked about the struggle of her divorce.

Back in February 2026, Duff appeared on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast to promote her new album and talked about how she knew she had to end her relationship with Mike Comrie.

“This was before ‘conscious uncoupling’ was a thing, and my parents went through such a bad divorce that … calling it made it really painful. But we’re not together anymore, so obviously it was bad enough that it just wasn’t working,” Duff said.

At the time of the split, her son wasn’t even two-years-old yet.

“I remember doing everything in my power to have it be peaceful and have us hanging out and spending time together,” she explained. “And every time we would trade, it wouldn’t just be a drop-off, pick-up situation. We would go to the park and hang out, or go have a meal.”

She said it felt “important” to her that her son “feel comfy” as his life changed so drastically.

“It was a really scary time to just not want to f— up your kid. You know what I mean? You put all of your stuff aside, and I had to deal with all of that later to just make sure that he was okay.”

Ultimately, she knew that she had to set an example for her son.

As a child of divorce, Duff explained, “I knew from my parents’ divorce that I was going to show my kid that you go to fight for your happiness. And I knew that it was going to be better to do it when he was like 5 and aware or 8 and aware.”

She added that once kids are older, they “put a whole different element of guilt on themselves” if the marriage doesn’t work out.

“I was like, if Luca cannot remember this and have two lives that exist that he can be happy in and feel secure in, I think we’re winning,” she said.

Hilary Duff had some really solid and important advice for anyone going through a divorce.

“You’ve got to fight for yourself, and it doesn’t matter that you have kids. Your kids are going to be okay. You just have to show them that you also matter,” she said.
