What to Know
Stars, they’re just like us. They pretend to love pregnancy, but secretly hate the worst parts about it. At least, that’s the case when it comes to Hilary Duff and it’s honestly one of many reasons why so many of us millennials tend to relate to the former Disney Channel star.
She appeared on Kylie Kelce’s podcast Not Gonna Lie With Kylie Kelcie, where she opened up about her body, her life as a performer and mother, and the truth about how she felt about pregnancy. Hilary has one kid with her first husband, Mike Comrie, and three children with husband Matthew Koma. Over the years, she has been in and out of the spotlight, but who knew she was a hashtag relatable mom?
Hilary Duff’s confession was a doozy for Kylie Kelce.
During the podcast episode, when Kylie asked Hilary about her body post-pregnancies, Hilary was boldly honest with the podcast host. She admitted that she has never loved any of her four pregnancies. She said that she, of course, loves the “outcome,” which has been her four children. But the actual pregnancies? Forget about it.
“I love that ride,” Hilary said in the episode. “I hate being pregnant, hate having something in my body. Like, it’s just crazy. And then you know kind of like what you’re left with afterwards and how long that whole thing takes and the pressure on you.”
She also explained, “I think each time I’ve been pregnant and like kind of gotten to the other side, and I don’t mean that in a negative way, but just like where you’re like feel like a person again and your clothes start to fit and all of that. You’re like, ‘Oh, I recognize that thing and that’s happening to me right now.'” This is in reference to understanding how the body works during and after pregnancy after doing it four times.
They also talked about why not to use the phrase “bounce back.”
Kylie brought up how she doesn’t care for the term “bounce back” when it comes to describing the body of a mother after she gives birth. Both Kylie and Hilary agreed that mothers’ bodies are “just different” and the body might not do what it once did or look the same way again, or for a long time.
“I’ve worked really hard, but my body’s worked really hard for me and produced an entire family, you know, that I’m so so grateful for. ” Hilary said. “That’s where that’s everything to me.”
She also said, “Like, it’s crazy how many people come up to me and they’re like, ‘oh my god, values look so good.’ And I’m like, I’m not even 40.”
And, she admitted, “It’s never been easy” when it comes to pregnancy, body image, and the postpartum body.
She has talked about her body and healthy body image before.
@time “‘Stronger not smaller’ is a huge, impactful statement that resonates with me,” Hilary Duff said on the TIME100 Gala red carpet. “I grew up during that time where all of us were trying to disappear and be waifs, and that’s not natural for my body.” #hilaryduff #time100 Presented by @Booking.com ♬ original sound – Time Magazine
To hear Hilary talk about positive body image isn’t a huge surprise, especially since she has three daughters. But even before she appeared on Kylie’s podcast, she spoke with Time magazine at a red carpet event and shared how she views a healthy body. It’s not about being skinny and as thin as possible.
“I obviously, you know, grew up during that time where all of us were trying to, like, disappear and be waifs, and that’s not natural for my body,” she said. “And, you know, for most of our bodies, especially as we endure the hormonal changes or motherhood and pregnancy, and all of those amazing things that make us women, right? So stronger, not smaller is a huge, impactful statement that resonates with me. And I am strong, and I do have muscles, and I’ve always been a gymnast, and I used to be embarrassed of my strength, and I just don’t need to be anymore.”
