It’s one thing to be excited at your kid’s youth sports game, especially if they happen to be on the winning team. But when one mom broke out what’s clearly her high school cheerleading moves in a TikTok video shared by another mom, Jessica Whittington, others called her out for her very high school-like behavior.
Some even commented on the TikTok to say that the other mom is displaying characteristics of a woman who “peaked in high school.” Ouch. It also just adds salt to the wound when the mom on the other team, which is winning, thank you very much, showboats on the sidelines of the basketball court. But hey, if she ever sees the TikTok, she might see the many comments intent on taking her down several pegs.

In the video, Jessica shows herself, clearly annoyed in the stands during her daughter’s basketball game. Text on the screen says, “When my daughter’s team is losing and the opp’s mom is performing her high school cheer routine.” She then turns her phone’s camera to show exactly that. A mom on the other side of the gym gets up, walks down to the small area right below the bleachers, and begins cheering. She even does a toe touch in the air.
“She’s not even facing her daughter to cheer her on, she’s facing the crowd like she’s performing for them,” one user commented on the TikTok.
They aren’t wrong. The mom is facing the bleachers as thought she is actually cheering for her daughter’s team as an official cheerleader.
Spoiler alert: she’s not an official cheerleader for this team.
So you might forgive another person who couldn’t help but comment, “Peaked in high school final boss.”
“I thought, ‘oh it’s not that bad let her celebrate’ when she did the first jump but then it just kept going and going and now I’m just in awe,” Another added.
It would be totally fine if the basketball mom’s antics started and ended with one little movement. Well, not really fine, because it would still be incredibly cringe. But it would be forgettable eventually. However, this mom continues her ploy for attention and does a straight up cartwheel on the sidelines. Was her daughter proud? Embarrassed? Used to this kind of behavior? Or maybe, all of the above?
For what it’s worth, someone commented to share how they would feel if this was their mom.
“I would literally sob if I looked over to see my mom doing such things,” they commented on the video.
Again, it’s totally OK to want to root for your child. But actually cheering as a cheerleader would do takes the focus off your kid in a big way. Why can’t she annoyingly shout from the bleachers like the rest of us parents?
