Picking your baby’s name before they are born isn’t easy for everyone. Some parents might be fine with randomly choosing a name from a baby book, or even using a fictional TV character as inspiration. But when a mom on TikTok admitted that she changed her five-month-old daughter’s name numerous times in her first few months of life, it was a bit much. Even for those of us who were oh so quick to name our babies after TV characters. And no, we aren’t getting into mine right now.
According to this mom, there were some issues in figuring out which name would be best for a fun nickname for her daughter. That was her and her husband’s biggest gripe. They wanted a name that had the ability to have a catchy and fun nickname.
In trying to figure out a name they liked with a nickname that also went with it, the couple ended up legally changing their baby’s name numerous times. Some of the infant’s names in her short life so far have been Margaret, Daisy, Margo, Gemma, Emma, and Lorelei. It’s exhausting just listing them.

Um, she had longer than “an hour” to pick the name, despite what she says.
The mom wrote in her TikTok caption that she “second guessed” herself before her daughter was born, which left her and her husband having a hard time landing on a name. Which is totally fine. Except, in this case, they scrambled to figure out the right name during their baby’s first five months of life, and even named her various names before finally settling on one that will (hopefully) stick.
“We were panicked because they said, ‘you have an hour to pick your baby’s name, we’re gonna come pick up the paperwork, you better pick,'” she explains in her TikTok. I mean, we all know that you have way more than an hour to choose your baby’s name. Even if you don’t know you’re pregnant until a few months in, you still have a decent amount of time before you head to the hospital to decide on your baby’s forever name. Still, according to this mom, it isn’t always that easy.
She also says in her video that she got stuck on nicknames.
Once she chose a name, the nickname that went along with that is what ripped her up and made her want to keep changing her daughter’s name. In the end, she and her husband went with Lorelei, yes, from Gilmore Girls. It was also a name they had originally chosen, so they absolutely went through all of that, just to go back to square one and stay there. Like, I’m tired just having that knowledge.
I understand the stress of picking a baby name. Most new parents can relate to wanting to get it absolutely right. But some parents aren’t letting this mom off the hook easily.
“You have an hour to pick her name,” one user commented on the TikTok, quoting her about picking her daughter’s name at the hospital, “You had an entire pregnancy to pick her name and then still took another five months.”
Another cheekily wrote, “Sooo same time next month?” Hopefully there isn’t an update a year down the line about yet another confusing name change.
Because there were so many twists and turns with the name, someone else added, “This can’t be real. I’m convinced this is a bit at this point.” Here’s hoping.
