What to Know
Sometimes, you just have to read a text from your dad, disown him completely, and move to another state. I mean, maybe that’s not exactly what a TikTok user named Megan did after her dad’s inappropriate text message came through, but chances are, she wanted to. She shared a screenshot of the text exchange in a video where she wrote in the caption that the rest of their family didn’t see an issue with what her dad sent her.
After she sent her dad a photo of herself with a new pair of glasses, his response was, at first, probably not what you would want to hear from your father. He followed it up with more encouraging and well-toned sentiments. But the damage was done, and she was quick to call him out. Unfortunately, he stood by his gross comment.
The dad doubled down on his inappropriate language to his adult daughter.

In her TikTok, Megan shows that her dad texted her, “Sexy even. Wait ’til you put your hair up,” in response to the selfie of Megan in her new glasses. He followed up that text with a few others that said Megan will “rock” the glasses and asked how often she has to wear them. And, by all accounts, those texts are totally fine to send to your adult daughter. It’s that first one that had Megan wondering who the heck this man was.
“That made me kinda uncomfortable,” she responded to the text. You know, the one where her dad called her sexy in glasses and suggested wearing her hair up with the glasses on. Oof.
To that, Megan’s dad came with his defenses up. He responded, “Omg. Take it at face value please. Just accept the compliment and run with it.”
But no, it did not end there. Because after Megan made her feelings clear on what made her uncomfortable, her dad came back hard with an actual guilt trip.
“Maybe you need to figure other things out. Such as actually trying to have a relationship with me instead of pushing away,” he wrote. “Perception might change. But who knows.”
One of the top comments under the TikTok said that all Megan’s dad needed to say was something as simple, harmless, and kind as “looking good kiddo.” Maybe he could have even added a little emoji for good measure. But clearly, Megan’s dad believes there is nothing wrong with how he spoke to his daughter through texts and how he made her feel.
Someone else commented, “This made ME uncomfortable and he’s not even my dad.” Umm, same.
Other users wrote that they are dumbstruck that he got mad at her. And, another user added, Megan’s dad’s “excessive defensiveness” tells them all they need to know about who he is outside of the text exchange. When Megan shared a follow-up video and showed what the glasses look like, people commented, as dads, to leave her appropriate comments. You know, like the kind she probably should have gotten in the first place from her actual real life father.
One user’s “dad response” was, “Love them, they look great on you kiddo.”
Another added, “Did insurance cover them and are they helping your eyesight?”
Both totally acceptable responses from a dad to a daughter. The original response? Yeah, not the move.
