Katey DiStefano

Katey DiStefano is a writer, social media strategist, and content creator behind @TheMotherOctopus. She was born and raised in northern NY (the part near Canada). She was Editor-in-Chief of Z. Platt, the literary magazine at Plattsburgh State University, where she studied English and Philosophy while earning her B.A. in Writing in 1999. After that, she moved to Long Island, spent 10 years in advertising at Rolling Stone and UsWeekly magazines, and she got married.

Katey became a mom to a daughter in 2007 and a son in 2010. In 2017 she got divorced and that was awful, but it helped her begin writing again. She created The Mother Octopus and wrote about parenting and her healing. Her writing and content have been featured on outlets including Business Insider, ABC.com, Huffington Post UK, Netflix, Scary Mommy, Parents.com, among others. She was also named one of Today’s Funniest Parents, one of Twitter’s Funniest Women, and one of Twitter’s Funniest Moms several times over.

Currently, Katey is a freelance writer and content creator with one kid in college and another one in high school. Her love language is creating memes, but she also creates social media strategies for the brands she works with. She loves the mountains and  visiting her mom in northern NY. You’ll also find her listening to and watching ALL the true crime with her white house-hippo named Lunabell and two cats, Spaghettios and Finn. She still lives on Long Island with her son and her golden retriever boyfriend named Brian.
