I was hoping to start the new year off with a pregnancy, but despite asking Santa for a baby for Christmas, December was another unsuccessful cycle for us. Since I took a break from constant charting and testing, I’m not quite sure when I ovulated. One thing is certain though—my trusty app was wrong on its guesstimation.
How do I know? Because Aunt Flo was too quick to stop by during the holidays. It was still calculating based on a 42-day cycle; however, my last couple of cycles were about 32 days. At least I was able to kick back and ring in the New Year with a few drinks guilt-free!
There are a few things I want to work on that may hopefully help us with conceiving Baby No. 3. Here are my New Year’s resolutions for trying to conceive:
- Lose weight. Overall, I need to live healthier. Even though I weigh less now than I did before having kids, I know being overweight can contribute to fertility issues. I’ll continue to make changes in how I eat, like cutting out soda again. Not only do I want to lose weight, I want to be healthier before getting pregnant. It could also help reduce the risk of developing gestational diabetes (again).

Consistent charting without burning myself out. Now that my cycle has shortened and become more predictable, I need to gather more data to learn my fertile days. However, I resolve not to become too fixated on charting in order to enjoy the process.
-
Have more sex! I think this is self-explanatory.
-
Invest in more "me" time. "Me" time is a precious commodity and I need to remember to take care of myself. It’s easy to forget, but I definitely need to take time and de-stress, whether it’s mom nights out, getting my hair done, reading or binge-watching shows on Netflix. I’m also thinking a massage and/or a chiropractor appointment might be a good idea.

Seek help, if needed. Help comes in many forms, but I’m resolving to see my ob-gyn if we don’t conceive by September. I don’t want to wait as long as we did to ask questions about why we were struggling to get pregnant with our first child. I know it’s normal for it to take up to a year, so I’m giving us a year. Hopefully this won’t be an issue!
The most important resolution of all is to get pregnant. It’s funny because “have another baby” was one of my 2012 goals, which I wrote out shortly after the new year. A couple months later, we conceived our son, so maybe writing this out will make it work again.
