The year's most heralded baby did not emerge from a Kardashian. Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, fourth in line to the British throne, was first in line to many of our hearts. Charlottes have always enjoyed positive associations, from the heroic spider who saved Wilbur the pig to the classiest of the "Sex and The City" girls. Kimora Lee Simmons gave her fourth child a name as fierce as she is when she decided to call him Wolfe. Kimora's choice is on-trend, with many celebrities opting for animal-themed names lately. But by adding that "e" on the end, it also becomes a surname-as-first-name, and makes us think of Tom Wolfe, bestselling author of "Bonfire of the Vanities."

The current spike in Atticus' popularity has coincided with the release of Lee's controversial sequel "Go Set a Watchman," which Amazon said was their most pre-ordered book of all time.

There's a rule somewhere that says rock royalty can't give their kids ordinary names like Mary or John, so it was no surprise that actress Liv Tyler, daughter of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, went for something a bit more unusual for her son. Sailor is considered unisex (Christie Brinkley has a daughter named Sailor) and was also the name of the Nicolas Cage character in the cult David Lynch movie film "Wild at Heart."
