Should I Post Photos of My Baby on Social Media?

These days, it's so common to post and interact with kids' pictures on social media, posted by their parents. But is it safe? Is it the right thing to do? What exactly is best? Experts and moms weigh in on whether to share photos of your kids on social media or safeguard them from the world.

Check privacy settings

"With family abroad, it was hard not to use social media to share my baby's pictures. I checked the privacy policy and ensured the correct privacy settings, so I only shared it with those I wanted."

It's a personal preference

"That is a personal preference. If you're someone who tends to share a lot of your life and want to show off your baby, go right ahead. Anyone who tells you to do differently doesn't need to be on your social media pages. However, if you're super private, then don't post. If you want someone to see a picture of your child, send it in a text or email."

Only share with your inner circle

"Nope. Only to closed circles. Social media is not for anyone outside of your inner circle and trusted friends, unless you are an influencer."

— Anonymous, dad of two

The benefits of social media outweigh the risks

"For me, I wasn't scared to have my kids on social media, since my Facebook page is private and I don't share too much personal info. I also show pictures of them on my public social accounts, like Instagram, but never share their names, locations, ages, etc. At the end of the day, I think the benefits (extended family being able to see your child grow) outweigh the risks."

Be mindful that anything on social media is out there for anyone to see

"I think this is completely up to the parents. Social media is a huge part of today's society, and many people use it to communicate with friends and family. I think parents need to keep in mind that anything they put on social media is permanent and out there for everyone to see, so just need to be mindful of that."

As long as your social media is private

"Sure, as long as your social media is private and only viewable by your trusted friends and family."
