Police officers in Marshall, Wis., got a surprise on Sept. 26, when a very pregnant Amy Nemec and her husband, Doug, pulled into the station. A few minutes after the couple's arrival, two of Marshall's finest delivered a baby girl in the station parking lot.
Doug, who was celebrating his own birthday, ran into the station looking for help, according to Madison, Wis., news site Channel3000.com.
Officer Kristine Quam and her sister Deanna Chadwick (pictured above), an office assistant at the station, helped deliver the baby once the Nemecs arrived.
Both mothers themselves, Quam and Chadwick gave all credit to Amy.
"Mom did everything; really we were just glorified catchers because she did the work," Quam told Madison outlet WMSNFox47.com.
"For all the stuff we do and all the things we see, by far, her birth will be the best part of my career," she added.
Marshall police released a statement saying that mom and baby were transported to a local hospital and are doing well.
In fact, they're doing so well that they stopped by the police station again the following day to talk to the people who helped deliver baby Miranda.
Doug even joked, according to WMSNFox 47, that they'll have to celebrate Miranda's first birthday with the Marshall Police Department to thank everyone who literally lent a hand.
“It’s great that our staff were ready, willing and able to rise to the occasion as they went above and beyond the call of duty to assist one of our residents and share in a moment of joy,” Marshall Police Chief Lee Hellenbrand told Channel3000.com.
