Do You Get Hemorrhoids When Pregnant?

A little more than half of women get hemorrhoids at some point during their pregnancy, says Dr. Codi Wiener, OB/GYN at Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women in Houston. “All of the veins in the body dilate a little from hormones and this can be seen in your legs, chest and hands,” says Wiener. “Add the pressure from the enlarging uterus in your pelvis and the possible constipation and you have a recipe for hemorrhoids.” Women who do not get hemorrhoids may have a small baby or a baby that rides high in the uterus, suggests Wiener.
