The concept of being pregnant is hard to wrap our heads around at first. We can read all the books we want, talk to our friends and family, scour all the parenting forums on the internet, and feel like we’ve got a handle on everything to expect.
But then real-life kicks in, and we realize that pregnancy isn’t always following the same pattern for everyone. Some of us think we’ve dodged the symptoms like morning sickness, only to be met with a rough nausea patch every day around dinnertime. Some of us feel bloated early on and don’t know how we’re going to make it through the whole nine months.
Pregnancy is individual
Even people who have been pregnant several times before are often caught off-guard by something going in a different direction the next time. This is especially true if you’re pregnant in a different month than before, or experiencing a different trimester.
For anyone pregnant during the month of October, here is everything you need to know for each trimester.
Pregnant in the First Trimester

The fall month is a great one to be pregnant in the first trimester. It’s the time when we’re often dealing with symptoms like fatigue, morning sickness, and bloating. The weather in October tends to be ideal for those situations, with it not being too hot or too cold.
October weather is made for pregnant people in the first trimester
The weather is excellent for opening a window at night if you’re overheated, but you won’t be too cold, either. The cold air at night means we can tone down our nausea that makes us feel overheated. And we can comfortably go for a walk without a jacket.
Halloween candy is life
Some people feel pregnancy cravings strongly from early on. And others are dealing with morning sickness so ruthless that there are only a few things we can eat without too much stress. For anyone who loves Halloween candy — whether that be peanut butter and chocolate or candy corn — there’s an endless supply.
If you hate PSLs — or love them — take note
We know that October is the season of pumpkin spice lattes (PSL), and that’s a good thing for anyone who isn’t turned off by the smell. If you are, it’s important to know so you can be prepared when you go out. If you have a craving for PSL, it’s one you can at least indulge in pretty easily.
No more trying to hide the bump in a bathing suit
We’re team rock the bump in any trimester, but we know that some people aren’t as comfortable — and comfort is key in the first trimester. One fun perk of being pregnant in the first trimester during October is we don’t have to worry about how we will feel in a bathing suit. That season has sailed!
Pregnant in the Second Trimester

We typically enjoy the second trimester because our energy usually returns, and our bump isn’t so big that we’re uncomfortable yet. If you’re between weeks 13 to 28, or in months 4, 5, and 6, the second trimester in October has some spice with the sugar, too.
Sleeping with the windows open cools you down
So many of us feel like we’re overheating while pregnant, and it can feel impossible to cool down. And no one can sleep comfortably when we’re too hot, which is why October is the best. We can open the windows at night and sleep soundly in the perfectly cool — but not too cold — weather.
Halloween costumes actually fit
Even if you’re not a massive fan of Halloween, there is no other time in pregnancy where it will translate well to the holiday. There are so many cute or funny Halloween costumes that work perfectly with a pregnant bump. And since the second trimester is usually the one we’re most comfortable with, we can go out and have a really fun time.
Your favorite fall boots don’t fit anymore
Ask any person who loves the fall, and they’ll probably tell you that it took years to track down their favorite pair of knee-high fall boots. The footwear that works with any outfit while the leaves are falling quickly become a staple in their autumn wardrobe.
Not only are they stylish and cute, but they’re finally comfortable and broken in. Except now that we’re pregnant and comfortably into the second trimester, our feet have swollen up already and those boots don’t fit anymore. Such a hard hit.
Pregnant in the Third Trimester

The end is near, and that final trimester takes all the energy. Not only that, but we’re on high alert trying to get everything done before the baby makes its appearance. It can be a month of great stress and anticipation.
Also, our bump is bigger at this point, so we’re bound to find ourselves uncomfortable at times, too. But months 7, 8, and 9 in October aren’t all bad.
Oversize sweaters and leggings are in
Arguably one of the best things about being pregnant in the final months in October is that it’s the season of oversizd sweaters and leggings. Not only are they incredibly comfortable anytime in life, but when our bump is at its biggest and our bodies are working overdrive, it’s the most comfortable thing to wear. And rocking it all month long isn’t going to give you any second looks because you’ll be right on-trend — and cute.
Impossible to find a coat that fits
In October, it’s usually the month that we have to unpack our jackets from the back of our closets. Except for this year, our coat doesn’t fit. Our partner’s coat doesn’t fit, either.
And when we head to the store to find one that will button or zip-up, we’re going to be searching for a long time — or purchase a maternity jacket we’ll only wear for a few weeks.
Cool weather means no more sweating
Ask anyone who has been pregnant in the heat of the summer, and they’ll tell you that they wish they could have experienced their final trimester in October. It’s the month with the best weather — you’re never too hot or too cold.
With the colder weather, we’re not going to be sweating — and if there’s one thing we’ve learned during our pregnancy it’s that we can sweat in places we didn’t even know existed.
