Sleepiness and fatigue are common throughout gestation and certainly in the early months. "During the first trimester of your pregnancy, your body is expending huge amounts of energy forming the placenta and sustaining a growing pregnancy," says Jenny M. Jaque, an OB-GYN based in Los Angeles and affiliated with the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. "Hormonal changes also lead to the fatigue women experience in pregnancy." To deal with the sleepiness, Jaque says to get enough rest and to not take on more projects or obligations than you can handle. "Give yourself a break and take this time to be healthy," she urges.
