VBAC is a commonly used acronym that means "vaginal birth after cesarean." It indicates that a woman who has undergone c-section with a previous pregnancy aims to have a vaginal delivery with a subsequent pregnancy. Whether you're a good candidate for a VBAC depends on why you had a c-section with your prior delivery, says obstetrician Dr. Joseph Krotec of Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. For example, if your first baby presented in a breech position — buttocks or feet first — but your second baby is vertex — head first — you might not need another c-section. Some obstetricians prefer not to do VBAC to reduce the risk that your cesarean scar might rupture during labor. Talk to your doctor about whether or not he feels you can try for a VBAC.
