"This is a tragedy that is one of those things that's very important that we do report out to our public to keep them informed," Boston said.

In a press release, the Sun Prairie Police Department said, "We express our deepest condolences to the families and friends significantly impacted by this loss."

On Friday, January 5, the Sun Prairie Police Department received a 911 call and arrived at the scene around 3:20 p.m. that afternoon. The Sun Prairie Fire Department then arrived, and the two boys were removed from the pond and taken to the hospital.

Earlier this week, the SPPD announced the "tragic passing of one of the boys" in a press release. The release was then updated, adding, "The medical examiner’s office confirmed that the second child had also passed."

BMC Youth Baseball, which hosts teams both boys played for, shared the news of the older brother's death on Facebook, identifying the brothers as 8-year-old Legend and 6-year-old Antwon.

"Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a bright young soul who was taken from us too soon," the statement began. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of these precious boys during this unimaginably difficult time."

The boys' mother, Kiana Sims, has created a GoFundMe to cover burial expenses for both boys. "They were beloved sons, brothers, friends, and classmates. Their absence has left an indelible mark on our hearts, and we are committed to ensuring that they are remembered with the love and dignity they deserve," the statement reads.

Currently, the GoFundMe has exceeded its $50,000 goal through an outpouring of support.
