Pregnant Mom Took a Nap and Never Woke Up — Her Family Still Doesn’t Know Why

A family in Brisbane, Australia, is still reeling from the devastating loss of wife and mother Margaret Tongiatama after she died suddenly in her sleep while pregnant with her third child earlier this month. The baby she was carrying didn't survive either, despite being full-term. Her family still has no idea what happened.

Margaret died on her due date, though it was unclear if she was in labor at the time of her death. Her husband, Edward, told the Courier-Mail that his wife had a doctor's appointment two days before her death, and that the meeting with the midwife "went well." Margaret seemed to be in good health.

Edward explained that he had taken the week off of work to be with Margaret and help her induce labor. On the afternoon of her due date, they had lunch and she said she was tired and went to take a nap. Twenty minutes later, her husband went to check on her and found that she wasn't breathing. He called for paramedics and began administering CPR, but "she was just gone."

After calling for emergency services, Edward explained that he flagged down a man skateboarding past their house, who just happened to be an off-duty paramedic. "He sprung straight into action, found his way into the house, and helped me with CPR until the ambulance arrived soon after," Edward explained. Still, they were unable to save Margaret.

"We're still going through all of the tests to see what happened to her, but it's at a loss," he shared.

One of Margaret's friends organized a GoFundMe to help Edward and her family with funeral costs. "This is an incredible loss not only for the Tongiatama, Alama, and Sili Samuelu families, but for all who were fortunate enough to know and love Magz," the description reads. "Family was so important to Magz, and the financial burden this bears on her husband and family is something we would like to help take off their plate."

Her husband said, "This has left a massive hole in everyone's lives."
