High School Staff Under Fire After Video of Teens Licking Each Other’s Toes Goes Viral

A high school in Oklahoma has a lot of explaining to do after a video of students licking each other's toes at a school charity event went viral. Students at Deer Creek High School in Edmond participated in a weeklong charity event raising money for Oklahoma City coffee shop Not Your Average Joe, which employs people with physical or mental disabilities.

The event, which was called "Clash of the Classes," was an event for students in grades 9 through 12. Any students who participated in the event were either volunteers or paid for entry. The video, shared by local news affiliate KOKH FOX 25, showed students lying on the floor licking the toes of other students who sat on benches.

"It was surprising," a student told KOKH FOX 25. "I didn't think they were going to do all that. I was just shocked. I didn't really have like a feeling. I was kind of disgusted, and then kind of glad I wasn't over there."

The school released a statement, praising the students for raising $152,830.38 for the coffee shop.

"On Thursday, February 29, 2024, Deer Creek High School hosted an assembly called the Clash of Classes for students who paid to attend. During this assembly, ninth through twelfth grade students volunteered to participate in various student-organized class competitions, in the spirit of raising money for NYAJ," the statement read. "All participants in the assembly were students who signed up for the game(s) they played ahead of time. No Deer Creek faculty or staff participated in any of the games during this Clash of Classes assembly."

There was no direct comment on the viral moment, which didn't sit well with members of the school community.

"It's really great that they raised a lot of money," a parent told FOX 25. "I feel like maybe they could've done a little bit more accountability and ownership in that statement for, 'Hey, you know, maybe we didn't fully think this thing through here.'"

Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters tweeted about the event, calling it "disgusting." In a statement to Newsweek, Walters said, "The video we've seen from Deer Creek is shocking and disgusting. OSDE [Oklahoma State Department of Education] is investigating this incident." The school has yet to directly comment on the incident itself.
