When you’re in labor, there are a lot of things you’re thinking about. But for most women, making sure you have a full face of makeup on isn’t one of those things. Childbirth feels like one of the times where you don’t need to worry about what you look like, but for some women it’s the exact opposite.
One new mom added to the conversation recently when she shared a video of herself putting on makeup while in labor with her second child, stoking the fires of the comments section.

She's doing what feels right for her
Influencer mom, Kylen Suttner, shared a very special “get ready with me” video on her TikTok last week. Laying in a hospital bed complete with hospital gown, Suttner began applying her makeup while she was in active labor. “Get ready for my successful vbac,” she wrote on the video.
This wasn’t just a little lip gloss either. This was a full face complete with contouring and brow gel.
She gave her followers the whole story
“Anyone else get SO nauseous right before pushing?? ,” she captioned the video.
As she begins applying her foundation, she admits that she “almost threw up” before pausing the video. When she returns, she continues putting her makeup on, saying that she is using her phone as a mirror since she forgot to pack one with her things. She did probably have a lot on her mind.
She kept it real and shared what was happening
“I’m starting to feel a lot of pressure down there, like I have to poo,” she said as she applied contour to her face. “I guess that means baby comes.”
While applying concealer, she explained that her baby’s heart rate was dropping, and that she was afraid she would have to again have a “traumatic” c-section if it continued.
Suttner also quipped that she was trying to get her makeup done quickly before the nurse returned, so she wasn’t going to fill in her eyebrows. As she was finishing up, she shared that the baby was “so low” that she felt it was almost time to give birth.

Who can think of makeup while they're in labor?
Naturally, there were a lot of women who couldn’t relate to Suttner’s need for makeup while in labor.
“I dont get doing makeup during labour ,” one person wrote. “The last thing I had in mind was getting make up on I actually took mine off before going to the hospital,” another wrote.
“I threw up about 5 minutes before i started pushing,” someone else wrote. “I had puke in my hair, no amount of make up in the world would have made those photos pretty .”
“I would be so scared I would have to push mid-contour or with only one brow done ,” another person quipped.
Some women want to look glam during delivery
While some women were confused or thought the idea of makeup was ridiculous, others chimed in with their support of Suttner’s choice, saying they’d done something similar, or planned to.
“This was me a year ago applying my cluster lashes minutes before starting to push ,” one person wrote.
“Go girl!! Make up is a must, feel good!!” another exclaimed.
“I’m going to do my makeup when I go into labor. Lol & I’m doing my hair as well. I want to look good,” another person shared.
