Mom Wishes to Name Her Daughter After Most Frequently Reported STI

Searching and deciding on a name for your child can be quite an easy task for some families; on the other hand, some people experience baby name woes to say the least. One mom, however, has already decided on her daughter’s name, but there’s just one issue — she wants to name her kid after an STD, according to the Daily Mail.

The mom shared in a Reddit post that she thought the name Chlamydia was “beautiful.”

“Chlamydia, come over here! Did you do your homework, Chlamydia?” she reflected on how it would sound to say the child’s name. “I just think it sounds great.”

“They should call the STD something different so we can finally start using it,” she added.

Quick with the backlash, people commented on the post, calling her “insane.”

“This is my daughter Chlamydia, she has been itching to meet you,” one person joked in the comments.

“That sounds pretty nasty,” another person added.

Another person questioned her decision-making for the name, simply asking “Why?”

According to the CDC, chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease that can cause permanent damage to a woman’s reproductive system. The CDC states that chlamydia “can make it difficult or impossible to get pregnant later.” The disease can also cause potentially fatal ectopic pregnancies.

The disease is also the most frequently reported bacterial STI in the U.S.
