Mom Dies by Suicide 9 Days After Giving Birth to Twins

Ariana Sutton, a Massachusetts mom who had just given birth to two twins, died by suicide on May 31 at her home. The twins are currently in the NICU at Newton-Wellesley Hospital after being born a month early, according to USA Today.

The 36-year-old mom of three died nine days after giving birth. According to a GoFundMe to help with the family's expenses, the twins' "early arrival brought unforeseen challenges, placing an immense strain on Ariana's mental health."

"Despite her relentless efforts to seek help, the burden of postpartum depression became too much to bear," the GoFundMe continued.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the campaign had raised more than $300,000, which will also help offset the cost of daycare.

Sutton's family and friends are now raising awareness for postpartum depression and urging people to prioritize their mental health during and after pregnancy.

"By fostering a supportive community, we can strive to prevent other families from experiencing similar tragedies," the campaign stated.

"It's so important that you ask for help," the mom's sister-in-law, Catherine, said. "If another family's able to avoid what we're going through right now, it's worth it to share our story."

The mother leaves behind her 4-year-old daughter, Melody Ki, newborn twins, and her husband, a local police officer.
