Mom Defends Herself After She Yelled at Her Child Who Locked Her Out of the House

Parenting is hard, and we all have to make tough decisions for ourselves and our children. A mom on TikTok is learning the hard way that sometimes you need to keep those choices to yourself, especially when it comes to discipline. Paris Marie shared a video of her son crying after locking her out of the house, and people are coming down on her for yelling at the young child.

In the video, her son is seen getting upset and crying about what had happened.

"Open the door now," she was heard yelling, to which her son responded, "I can’t unlock the garage door." Through tears, he asked if she was going to call his dad.

In the caption of her video, she wrote, "Needless to say, I did end up getting in the house through the screen on the back porch to the back door. Oh the memories!"

Marie received a bunch of comments full of hate, saying she was a "bad parent" and a "terrible mother" because of the way she chose to talk to her child. Some commenters did come to her defense, saying that yelling would be necessary since she was trying to communicate with the young boy through a glass door.

If she spoke in a passive quiet tone, she might not have been heard at all.

Marie was forced to make a follow-up video defending her choices.

"I think some of you have trauma and don't know the difference between stern and yelling," she captioned the video.

"Some of y'all are a little too sensitive to a parent being a parent," she said in the in-video text, adding an eyeroll emoji.

She added, "First of all that was not me yelling… that was me raising my voice in a stern tone to send the message that the situation was serious." She added that she even found humor in the situation, trying not to laugh during the filming of the video.

Marie also shared that her 5-year-old son "is the king of producing fake tears."

She explained that she sat him down and explained the seriousness of the situation they found themselves in because of his actions, and revealed that he did it again the same day.

Despite her explanations, the backlash and hate continued. Many said that her yelling was making her son afraid of her, with one comment saying they'd "keep you locked outside too."

There were people who did understand Marie's side of things, and validated her choices.

"You were talking loudly but that’s because he may not have heard you if you used your normal voice (glass door)," one person said.

Another commented, "Yelling? Are you serious? You must be one of those perfect parents. It’s very dangerous for that baby to be in the house alone. Momma is scared too."

Marie made a choice that felt right for her in that moment, which is all any of us could do. Her choices may not be right for another parent, but you never know until you find yourself in her situation.
