As moms, we all know what it’s like to be totally frazzled and not paying attention. Sometimes it looks like putting your phone in the vegetable drawer of your refrigerator. Or maybe leaving your keys in the dog’s food dish. Or in the case of one California mom, accidentally gluing your eye shut.

In a now viral TikTok video, Jennifer Eversole, a mom of six, explained how in a frazzled state, she mistook nail glue for eye drops and glued her eye shut. Unsurprisingly, the ordeal landed her in the emergency room, where she admits she had to be taken by an ambulance.
"Well, I've gone and done it. I have won the most idiot person award," she opens the video, where she is clearly sitting in a hospital room with a compress over her eye. “My eye drops sit directly next to superglue and they’re the same size bottle and I wasn’t paying attention and now my eye’s glued shut.”
Frankly, this all sounds terrifying. Eyes are incredibly sensitive, and something like superglue or nail glue can do a lot of damage. It’s good that Eversole caught her mistake quickly and got herself to the hospital.
According to People, “Eversole said she immediately felt an "intense burning, really bad burning, it felt hot."
"And then I shut my eye really fast," she recalled. "And I don't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing because it didn't get on my eyeball that much. And maybe it wouldn't have glued my eyes shut if I hadn't shut them, but I don't know what would have happened. It could have been worse."
There are thousands of comments on Eversole’s video since it was shared on June 3. Many of them range from pure shock to genuine concern for her and her well-being. In the video, Eversole starts to cry, probably because she is so overwhelmed by the severity of the situation. You can tell from the way she speaks that she’s beating herself up for what was obviously a genuine mistake.
In a video replying to a commenter’s request to see the bottles, Eversole shows her followers just how easy it was to make the mistake. The bottles are very similar, even though she admits that her nail glue had a red cap, which should have made it easier for her to realize it wasn’t the eye drops.
“I was distracted, talking to my daughter, getting ready to go pick up groceries, and I just grabbed it,” she explained. She told People that in the future she will switch to brush-on nail glue to avoid making the same mistake twice.
One week ago, Eversole shared a video updating everyone on the progress of her eye. Filming from the ophthalmologist’s office, she shared that her vision in her right eye isn’t great still, but there’s no more glue in it.
“Eyesight should be back to 20/20 within a few days and my eye is healing nicely. No major abrasions and I am very lucky for that seeing as so many of you commented that others have lost their eye doing this exact thing!” she wrote.
Here’s hoping she’s learned her lesson and will remember to put the nail glue back next time!
